Parents of dead toddler are indicted

The parents of the 4-year-old boy found dead inside a sport utility vehicle were indicted on murder and child abuse and neglect charges.

A Clark County grand jury Tuesday indicted Stanley Rimer, 51, and Colleen Rimer, 40, on one count each of second-degree murder and six counts of abuse or neglect.

  • They are facing charges in connection with the killing of their son Jason Rimer and the abuse or neglect of their four other children, ages 9 to 15, living in the home.

Jason was found dead on June 9. Authorities said he was left in the family's SUV for 17 hours and died of environmental heat stress.

The indictment also states that the other children lived in a filthy, foul-smelling house cluttered with furniture, tools, dirty clothes and animals. Authorities had said the house was littered with animal feces when they inspected it.

The other children also were provided minimal food, were verbally abused and had lice, the indictment states.

The couple also meted out "excessive" corporal punishment, the indictment states.

The Department of Family Services had 21 contacts and referrals involving the Rimers going back more than two decades.

The couple is scheduled to be arraigned on July 30.

This city will not change and I hate to say it but when it comes time to raise my kids, I will not be doing it here.

Yes, the so called parents should be put away forever. When does the accountability on the part of our state workers come into play here??

This was no an accident, you know.

    This was premeditated murder.

These people needed to get rid of their "not right" child.

They figured they would get off with a wrist slapping if they were the first of the year who "forgot about their child".

Gratefully, the police didn't buy it, this time.

They should be required to spend 17 hours in their own SUV before they ever go to prison. If they survive.

    Then, they should be executed.
