Underwent surgery for skull fractures Friday

The condition of beaten and hospitalized District Judge Elizabeth Halverson has improved, a friend said Sunday.

The suspended judge has been at Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center since a late-night attack last week.

  • Police said Halverson was repeatedly struck with a frying pan.

Her husband, Edward Halverson, has been charged with attempted murder, battery with substantial bodily harm and battery with a deadly weapon. He is being held at the Clark County Detention Center.

Bobbi Tackett said she spent most of Sunday visiting the 50-year-old judge, who underwent surgery for skull fractures Friday.

Tackett said the judge's condition was upgraded from critical to serious Sunday. But she has a lengthy recovery ahead of her, Tackett said.

"Her head is totally bandaged," she said. "She's black and blue over most of her body."

Tackett said Elizabeth Halverson is unable to open her eyes because of swelling and is not very coherent.

Elizabeth Halverson's sisters and mother traveled from San Francisco to be with her at the hospital.

Tackett said she and Elizabeth Halverson's immediate family have received an "outpouring" of support from well-wishers.

Edward Halverson, 49, is scheduled to appear in Justice Court on Tuesday.

On Thursday, authorities had to force their way into the Halversons' home in the 4100 block of Oxnard Circle, near Tropicana Avenue and U.S. Highway 95, after Elizabeth Halverson called 911 and said that her husband was beating her.

Edward Halverson has been arrested at least 10 times in various states on charges ranging from cocaine possession to breaking into a house and stealing property.

The couple were married in 1998.

Elizabeth Halverson was suspended from the bench in July 2007 and faces allegations that she mistreated staff, slept on the bench and improperly communicated with jurors. She failed in her bid to seek re-election this year.

She is awaiting a decision from the Nevada Judicial Discipline Commission that could ban her from the bench for life.

I have no agenda with regards to the judge.
I only have what I witness in the paper.
I only have my deductive reasoning.

First - Halverson is a woman out of control.
Second - Downward spiral. Bad Health. Bad job performance
Third - She is verbally abusive as testified in court
Fourth - Public figure under a lot of pressure.
Fifth - Overweight (not that that is a problem, but it is a concern)
Sixth - If her husband really wanted to kill her... there were a lot of ways
Seventh - If she was so obese... how did she call 9-11 WHILE her husband was allegedly beating her? Where was her cart?

Now... too many items have been disclosed by "family friend". Where was her "family friend" and "family" throughout this entire ordeal. Sure the family is here now that she is in the hospital.

People needing attention and in a downward spiral are like drug users who cannot kick the habit. This should be a private matter with little exposure other than Hardcastle assaulted. Domestic Violence alleged.

    ALLEGED!!!! PEOPLE IT IS ALLEGED!!!!

Many of you have already convicted...

Instead... we have a 3-ring circus with scooters left in driveways, no official notification that she is in the hospital... speaking through a "family friend" instead of "official hospital spokesman"...

This story will go on for at least another week... to fill someone's habit...

Yes... it is sad IF (IF) BIG IF she was beaten by her husband... and there is NEVER an excuse for domestic violence...

It is time for this woman to go.

I still would like to believe that most people do understand and we are dealing with a chosen few (under aliases) with another agenda. If so, I suggest those few find another forum as this is a serious issue.

Let me explain. There are employees and neighbors who have stated both parties engaged in verbally abusive behavior towards each other.

There has been testimony and news reports that Mrs. Halverson treated her employees with verbal disrespect and professionally unacceptable requests. That she said demeaning things, up to and including, asking her bailiff "jokingly" to "shoot her husband." There's more Freud than a joke in that statement...it's just pure ugly to go there at all.

Halverson crossed boundaries by sneaking in hired guns, to protect her, at the court house. On that charge alone, she should be summarily shown the door.

When taking in all that's been submitted regarding their personalities and documented behavior, I'd have been pleasantly surprised if their union had beat the odds and was supportive and successful.

It will be interesting to see what role this woman will take once she has recovered from his murder attempt. Will she be a role model and exit the relationship or sign on for the rest of the cruise?

Hardcastle Revisited wrote on September 07, 2008 01:14 PM: "just watchin" and came across this. Here is a snippet. Hardcastle made the New York Times 06/01/2004

Kathy Hardcastle, 52, is the inscrutable presence in this family; at once dominant and indulgent, driven
Kathy Hardcastle has drinks with the girls on Saturdays.

At times, the judge (HIS HONOR HARDCASTLE) stands at his door, unsure of what he may find inside. Will there be a nude young man in there? A half-dressed girl? Personal property gone missing? Someone unconscious in the bathroom?

The judge (HIS HONOR HARDCASTLE) can tell you about the horror of standing in the emergency room above his daughter, her painted lips dull red, her skin light blue.

Consider that Whitney brought a runaway boy home last year and the Hardcastles let him stay. Kathy Hardcastle took him in thinking he might be a steadying influence on their daughter.
A boy sleeping in his daughter's bed. One high school credit, unable to carry a conversation, no interest in books, no hobbies. He stays out late and does drugs. I haven't tried heroin yet," he says.

KATHY HARDCASTLE THINKS THIS IS A STEADYING INFLUENCE ON HER DAUGHTER. THIS IS WHY OUR CHIEF JUDGE DOES NOTHING ABOUT DELVECCHIO. KATHY HARDCASTLE THINKS THIS BEHAVIOR IS A "STEADYING INFLUENCE".

His Honor, the man of order and discipline, washes the reprobate's underpants on Saturday afternoons. Kathy Hardcastle says as a matter beyond discussion. And to this end, she bought her husband a new washer and dryer.

The washing gives Judge Hardcastle a modicum of control. "Some colors need warm. Some need cold. Heavy material needs warm, no matter what the label says. Reds bleed. Jeans go in cold." The judge folds them on his pool table.
