  • A family celebration turned tragic Thursday night when a woman was fatally shot outside her home near Bonanza Road and Lamb Boulevard.

    Las Vegas police were called at 9:56 p.m. to 4040 Hidden Oasis Court, where the woman had been shot in the chest.

    The woman, who had been celebrating with her family her 20-year anniversary as an employee at a local casino, was taken to University Medical Center, where she later died.

    She was not identified by the Clark County coroner's office.

    Witnesses said they heard a single gunshot and then realized the woman had been shot, according to police.

    There are no suspects or motives in the case so far. Police were looking for a small, silver compact car with unknown license plates.

    SUSPECT NAMED

    29-year-old man who died in shooting is ID'd

    A man who died after being gunned down Sept. 26 near Flamingo Road and Decatur Boulevard has been identified by the Clark County coroner's office as Jhon Fredy Castano.

    Castano, a 29-year-old Las Vegas resident, was shot once in the stomach about 11 p.m. on Retalbo Avenue. He later died at University Medical Center.

    Las Vegas police were still looking for 27-year-old Jose Antonio Cordova, whom they have named as a suspect in the shooting. He is described as 5 feet 6 inches tall and about 200 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes.

    LAHONTAN RESERVOIR

    Body found in vehicle in reservoir identified

    A body found in a vehicle partially submerged in Lahontan Reservoir west of Fallon has been identified by the Nevada Department of Public Safety's Investigation Division as 32-year-old Kyle Ray Lee of Fernley.

    Lee's body was discovered Aug. 20 near the dam, where the lake's waters had receded. Lee's death is still being investigated, but foul play is not suspected at this time, investigators said.

    Lee was last seen Jan. 11 and had been reported missing to the Lyon County Sheriff's Office.

    TWO INJURED

    Suspect sought in shooting on highway

    Las Vegas police are looking for a 26-year-old man suspected of shooting two people on U.S. Highway 95 at Decatur Boulevard on Friday afternoon.

    Police said Jason Charles Burkhart is suspected of driving up to a vehicle on the highway and firing numerous rounds into another vehicle, hitting a man and woman inside.

    The victims drove themselves to University Medical Center and arrived about 2 p.m., police said. No information on their conditions was available Friday.

    Burkhart was driving a maroon sedan with tinted windows, police said. He is described as 6 feet tall and 190 pounds, with red hair and brown eyes.

    DIVE OFF BOAT

    Teenager drowns at Lake Mohave

    A 19-year-old Bullhead City, Ariz., man drowned at Lake Mohave on Friday.

    The man, identified by the National Park Service as Patrick Tieken, was reported missing at 3:30 p.m. after he dove off a boat near the Rams Head Cove and never surfaced.

    Divers from the Bullhead City Fire Department found his body near the cove about 5:30 p.m.

    He was not wearing a life jacket, according to park service officials.
