The Clark County coroner's office has identified the 11-year-old boy fatally struck while riding his bicycle Saturday on Danica Way at Morris Street as Travis Smith.

He was killed after riding into the path of a pickup after failing to stop for a stop sign about 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Las Vegas police said.

The Las Vegas boy was taken to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center, where he died.

Smith died of multiple blunt force injuries, and the incident was ruled as an accident.

The driver of the 2008 Ford F-30 pickup, 21-year-old Pierce Thoms, was uninjured.

Victim of ATV crash was Las Vegas man

The 27-year-old man killed in an all-terrain vehicle crash over the weekend in the desert area off Interstate 15 near Sloan has been identified as Joseph Alton Eckrote by the Clark County coroner's office.

Investigators think Eckrote lost control of his 2007 Honda Rincon ATV, which then rolled over and landed on top of him. Two target shooters happened upon the wreck Sunday morning.

Eckrote, of Las Vegas, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The wreck remains under investigation by Las Vegas police.

Coroner's office IDs victim of shooting

The woman fatally shot Thursday outside her home on Hidden Oasis Court has been identified by the Clark County coroner's office as Gloria Tapia-Martinez.

The 43-year-old Las Vegas woman was celebrating her 20th anniversary of working at a local casino when she was shot.

Tapia-Martinez died of a single gunshot wound to the chest in what has been ruled a homicide.

The shooting occurred about 10 p.m. outside her home, near East Bonanza Road and North Lamb Boulevard.

Las Vegas police said they have no suspects or motives.

Event for homeless takes place Wednesday

The biannual Project Homeless Connect, which aims to help thousands of the valley's homeless find housing and jobs, will be Wednesday at Cashman Center, at the corner of Washington Avenue and Las Vegas Boulevard.

The daylong event, scheduled for 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., brings together dozens of city, county and social services agencies that help the homeless.

Those who attend can get free food and clothing, haircuts, housing referrals, job placement aid, dental screenings and other services. Judges will be on site to hear misdemeanor cases and process warrants to help the homeless deal with legal issues.

The event is organized by the Nevada Homeless Alliance.

Mother convicted for role in gang fight

A mother who drove her teenage son and his friends to a fatal fight with a rival gang was convicted in Long Beach, Calif., of second-degree murder Monday.

Eva Daley, 31, was charged with first-degree murder, but the Superior Court jury opted for the lesser conviction after deliberating for more than two days.

Her 17-year-old co-defendant, Heriberto Garcia, was convicted of second-degree murder for fatally stabbing 13-year-old Jose Cano after getting a ride from Daley in June 2007.

Five other teenagers, including Daley's son, admitted to manslaughter charges in juvenile court.

The case of another youngster is still pending in juvenile court.
