Entertainers in sync with Obama

Singer, actress chill with Democratic hopeful's supporters

Justin Timberlake isn't one of those political celebrities, the oft-derided limousine liberals who seem to think an Oscar is a doctorate in public policy.

He is, he says, just a guy who feels strongly about the upcoming election, as do so many others.

  • "I'm not here as some dude who writes goofy songs," the superstar pop singer said Saturday from the stage of the amphitheater at the Clark County Government Center.

"Me and Jess, we're here as Americans. We're here as humans because this is something we had to do," Timberlake said. "We've never publicly endorsed before. But we've never been so inspired by one person."

Timberlake and his girlfriend, actress Jessica Biel, stopped by the free public rally to urge support for Democrat Barack Obama, especially among the young voters that make up Timberlake's fan base but historically do not register or vote as much as other age groups.

It was cold and windy, and the outdoor venue was perhaps half-full with a few hundred mostly young people.

The former member of the boy band *NSYNC, who is 27 and registered to vote in Tennessee, didn't sing or dance, just talked spontaneously for about half an hour, helped by a printout of policy points and noting in a self-deprecating manner that he never went to college.

Timberlake was chatty and goofy, Biel more polished, but both were earnest as they pleaded with the group to help mobilize the youth vote.

Noting that the next president's Supreme Court appointments could determine the future of legal abortions, Biel said, "Nobody should be able to say what you can do with your body."

Timberlake joked, "I give Jess the right to choose where we go to eat all the time. The funny thing is, what the woman chooses is usually right."

"Brownie points for you," Biel teased him.

"I know where my bread is buttered," Timberlake responded.

Felice Garcia and Lindsey Jamieson, both 21-year-old University of Nevada, Las Vegas students, were thrilled to see two of their passions converge.

"We both believe in Obama and we both love Justin, so the two combined are a perfect mix," Jamieson said.

"We're both singers, so we really look up to him," Garcia added.

She said she was impressed that Timberlake, who is in town all week for a charity golf tournament, lent his time to a relatively low-key event.

"I really respect him for that," Garcia said. "He obviously cares about this."

Eligible voters who have not yet registered have until Tuesday to do so in person at the Government Center.

    Early voting begins Saturday.

Hollywood and the celebritards have everyone convinced that because they play geniuses on TV and movies, that they R one. I know that Jess will be comforted to know she won't have to go get the clothes hanger and vacuum out even if John McCain is elected. What a stooge this chic is. And her "Manly" sperm donor isn't one to write home about either.

Its true, baby. Accept it and then vote for a patriot who's loyalty to America will never be questioned.

    Here's the pudding:

If it doesnt affect you, dont worry about it, what a woman does with her body is her own business. Any man on or off this planet should not have a say in it. Have an idea not a belief, and dont go saying the bible says this or that, its been so doctored up that nothing is true or believable.

If you can answer one question, just this one question to the satisfaction of any true Christian, you will have me convinced.

How does a Christian, a true believer in Christ as Lord and Savior reconcile those beliefs with their support of any political candidate who supports the killing of the unborn?

I am still waiting for an answer to that one. And it is not allowed to answer a question with a question or change the context of the question.

If you cannot honestly reconcile those two things, then you have discovered that something is wrong. Either God is wrong, or you are wrong.

Senator Hothead is Dangerous wrote on October 12, 2008 02:55 PM: At least three of McCain's GOP colleagues have gone on record to say that they consider him temperamentally unsuited to be commander in chief. Smith, the former senator from New Hampshire, has said that McCain's "temper would place this country at risk in international affairs, and the world perhaps in danger. In my mind, it should disqualify him." Sen. Domenici of New Mexico has said he doesn't "want this guy anywhere near a trigger." And Sen. Thad Cochran of Mississippi weighed in that "the thought of his being president sends a cold chill down my spine. He is erratic. He is hotheaded."

fred wrote on October 12, 2008 02:28 PM: Let's see Obama was a "Community Organizer" then an Illinois State Senator where most of his votes were "present".

As a United States Senator he has not written any legislation in the 143 days that he has been in office. I can not count any more as on day 144 he announced his candidacy for President.

Obama has been legal counsel for ACORN. Yes the same ACORN that is involved in voter registration fraud. He donated several thousand dollars to register the Dallas Cowboys to vote.
