Some charges against judge dropped

Settlement in case to be discussed today

The Judicial Discipline Commission has dropped multiple charges against Family Court Judge Nicholas Del Vecchio, including accusations that he sexually abused his ex-wife's 14-year-old daughter.

The Judicial Discipline Commission on Monday released a document showing it dropped 27 charges against the judge. The Judicial Discipline Commission today is scheduled to discuss a proposed settlement in the case.

Commission Executive Director David Sarnowski declined to comment Monday on why the charges were dropped.

In February, the special prosecutor for the discipline commission filed a 38-count complaint against Del Vecchio accusing him of sexual harassment, making lewd and racist comments and abusing his power.

The February complaint also accused Del Vecchio of having his ex-wife's 14-year-old daughter perform oral sex.

Del Vecchio denied that he ever had a sexual relationship with the girl. But he admitted in a formal response that he fell in love with her and wanted to marry her when she worked as his judicial assistant when she was in her 20s.

The amended complaint continues to allege that Del Vecchio coerced the woman, identified as Rebeccah Murray, into a sexual relationship when she worked for him. It also accused the judge of taking nude photos of her.

The remaining counts against Del Vecchio accuse him of making inappropriate sexual and racial comments about court staff.

Del Vecchio is still on the bench. He ran for re-election but did not earn enough votes in the primary to advance to the November election.

Should have been removed when he admitted falling in love with his step-daughter but at least he is gone. You are supposed to fall in love with people your own age, not your spouse's children!!! Now, for the rest of the questionable judges???

Two Cents wrote on October 21, 2008 02:35 PM: Most of the charges probably belong in another court anyway. What really bothers me is his statement about falling in love and wanting to marry her. This is (I'm being nice) not a statement a family court judge should be making and he should have been removed from the bench long ago. We seem to have a serious problem with our judges. I agree with an earlier poster. The review board for these people should be made up of regular citizens, not people who will protect their own.

Geeez, the Judge helped her quite a bit. Now look what he gets in return. I suppose nice guys do finish last. You go Girl. Good job, NOT. You should be ashamed of yourself. Karma.

The Judicial Discipline Commission is a joke and has always sided on with their buddies of the courts. Prosecutors special prosecutors, cops and judges are all a bunch of crooks.

People, they are NOT on your side..
The legal system in Nevada is more than just broken, it a sham, its corrupt, its illegal, its a violation of Constitutional laws, is offensive, its designed to oppress and destroy people's lives, and a bunch more..

This guy is paramount to a rapist and sits in court making judgements against you. When in fact he himself is an abuser..

This is NOT justice. Then again, just look at how a cop in Henderson got away with MURDER of a mother in front of her children. Now see a judge get away with ABUSE.

Your tax dollars wasted again..
This is a joke and every resident should be doing everything to remove this guy.

Now lets all watch and see how he gets away with it.

So the fix is in and this disgusting human will get off the hook. And, of course, the public, who foots the bill for all of this, is left in the dark as to why a predator like this is not going to be adaquately punished.

Of course they get paid( no doubt to much) for these bungled tasks along with all the other state benefits. And people wonder why the state is at the bottom of every list and going broke. You only have to look at things like this to determine why.

Mark wrote on October 21, 2008 07:32 AM: Exactly what did this guy do that was wrong for a Judge. It sounds like he was acting just like every other slimeball judge and elected official. He should not worry, the Judicial Discipline Committee has no appetite for taking him on, just for a little hanky panky, some photos, some suggestive remarks and some sex by a Judge. This case is right up there with Judge Halversons, and we see what the Commission is doing to her, abdolutely nothing. They are going to wait until after January then claim no jurisdiction to discipline.
