By the end of Saturday, the biggest day of early voting yet, nearly 190,000 Clark County voters had gone to the polls, according to the Clark County Election Department.

Saturday's nearly 27,000 voters countywide were the most of any single day in the early voting period, of which eight of the 14 days have now elapsed.

  • Democrats continue to enjoy higher turnout than Republicans in Clark County. Of the 186,849 voters to go to the polls so far, 103,719 were Democrats and 52,850 were Republicans, with the rest nonpartisans or members of minor parties.

The numbers reflect only the party with which the voters are registered, not who is winning. However, polls generally find that about 80 percent of Democrats and Republicans support their parties' presidential candidates.

The election department also received 30,000 votes through mail ballots. There, Republicans enjoyed a slight advantage at 14,000 ballots compared with 12,500 for the Democrats.

Combining mail ballots and early voting, Democrats represented 54 percent of all county voters through the end of voting Saturday, while Republicans were 31 percent.

The last day to request a mail ballot is Tuesday. Completed mail ballots must be received by the Election Department by the time the polls close on Election Day, Nov. 4.

Early voting continues through Friday. Registered voters should consult the sample ballot they should have received in the mail for hours and locations. The election department can be reached online at www.accessclark county.com/depts/election or by calling 455-VOTE (8683).

Sounds like your "beef" is with the conservative Elko Times.

As far as the "liberal congress" I would like to hear just a SINGLE example of legislation passed by the "liberal congress" without either the support majority of republicans in Congress or the signature of the republican president that had ANY detrimental impact on the economy.

Seems to me, that unless you can do this, whatever policies were put into place by the republicans would be responsible right?

And one more thing, save your time searching cause their just aint one, which brings us back to my last point; since it was the REPUBLCIANS policies that got us here, they are the ones to blame, and knowing how they LOVE to accpet personal responsiblity and all, I can't wait for JUST ONE of them to stand up and admit it...but I ain't holding my breath.

Herb wrote on October 27, 2008 04:28 PM: patrick, we haven't had 4 years of a right wing Frankenstein. Bush was a "compassionate conservative" who spent too much. If we had a real right winger in office who cut spending programs our economy would be in better shape. Also keep in mind we have had a liberal congress over the past two years and that's when things took a turn for the worse.

patrick wrote on October 27, 2008 03:26 PM: According to that staunch republican newspaper the Elko Times McCain has turned, in the last few weeks, into a "Right Wing Frankenstein".

This country can't stand another 4 years of a "Right wing Frankenstein"

    Vote for a change.

patrick wrote on October 27, 2008 03:24 PM: The choice we face in the next election is an easy one: vote for a man who "supports bush MORE than 90% of the time", or vote for a man that didn't.

If you like where the country is today and where it is headed, your choice is clear; vote for McCain. He proudly proclaims that he supported bush MORE than 90% of the time.

If you don't like where the country is today and where it is headed, your choice is equally clear; vote for a man that DIDN'T support bush.

    Its really just that easy.

McCain is a wonderful father wrote on October 27, 2008 02:44 PM: In a lot of ways Obama reminds me of that character "Eddie Haskill," who has become an personality icon for a certain behavior.

"YYYYYessss, Mrs Cleaver," then turns around and becomes who he really is.

Obama just isn't discriminating enough, in the company he keeps. His children don't know him, his daughter thought she was being precocious when she kept screaming "daddy where are you? daddy where are you?" at the DNC, I thought she nailed her relationship with him.

Let's give Barack an opportunity to bond with his family.

Vote for a man, who is one with his family, always has, always will be.

    Vote McCain
