Thirty-five people with probable ties to street gangs were arrested in the Las Vegas area late Thursday as part of a nationwide federal sting.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement is overseeing the crackdown known as Operation Community Shield.

All but three of those arrested are foreign nationals who face deportation. Seven face criminal charges, including three who could be prosecuted by the U.S. Attorney on charges of felony re-entry after deportation, a violation that carries a potential 20-year prison sentence.

"These are not the normal illegal aliens," said Richard Curry, assistant special agent in charge of the agency's Las Vegas office. "They're the worst of the worst we want to get off the street to make Nevada a safer place."

Most have records of felonies, such as dealing drugs near schools and drive-by shootings, Curry said. They have suspected ties to 19 different gangs.

Deportation is another way of cracking down, Curr said. "We do our part to remove them from the U.S."

Twenty-seven of the suspects are from Mexico; the remainder are from El Salvador, the Philippines, Honduras, Cuba, Guatemala and Laos.

One 26-year-old was a previously deported Mexican with ties to the Park Avenue street gang and has prior arrests for weapons charges and drug possession.

An 18-year-old Mexican member of the 18th Street gang had been previously arrested for attempted murder in connection with a drive-by shooting.

ICE worked with the Nevada Department of Public Safety, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, the Mesquite Police Department and the North Las Vegas Police Department.

Deport those illegal thugs NOW. Deport ALL illegal aliens! I wonder how many of the illegal low-lives came from Arizona after the law went into effect. Nevada does NOT need any more illegals; we have too many, and all of them need to be rounded up by ICE and deported for good.

According to a report by Yahoo! News’ John Cook, Saudi Prince Al-Waleed bin Talal -- the second-largest shareholder of Fox News’ parent company News Corp. -- has deep funding ties to Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf, the “principal planner” of the Islamic community center in lower Manhattan.

Ties to 19 different gangs. Unless those are gangs of 2, it sounds like they have a lot more rounding up to do.

I think the cops should shoot more people so we don't have to pay their defense lawyers or for their stay in jail!"

VIVALARAZA -hahah of course a mexican would say Aryan warrior metro officers. How many times have you heard of a aryan warrior shooting up parties or killing people for fun like most non white gangs?

" ARYAN WARRIOR METRO OFFICERS" If I or you were a cop you would do the same stuff you hear on the news 24/7. I would not allow one of these gang members take me away from my family. I would give them a warning, they don't comply, I would blast them in the head. It is simple, don't put yourself in the situation to get shot by cops and it won't happen. If a cop tells you to jump, you should say how high sir! It is a respect thing. If you show a police officer respect, they will not shoot you. I think the cops should shoot more people so we don't have to pay their defense lawyers or for their stay in jail!
