Magic show worker improves

LAS VEGAS REVIEW-JOURNAL

The assistant injured Wednesday by an industrial fan during David Copperfield's magic show was set to be released from University Medical Center on Friday afternoon.

"Knowing him, he will want to come backstage tonight and show off his wounds," producer Chris Kenner said.

    • The assistant, identified only as Brandon, was caught in the fan blades in view of the audience, receiving multiple arm fractures and facial injuries.

    Kenner said the illusion where Copperfield appears to pass through the fan would not be removed from the show because of safety concerns. It might still be put on hiatus if audience reaction becomes too noticeable after news coverage of the accident.

    The blocking of the illusion will be changed slightly. But after reviewing tape of the accident, Copperfield and the crew determined there is no ongoing safety threat. "It was such an odd, freak accident," Kenner said.
