LV police arrest roommate in 'Deliverance'-style slaying

Perry Danley asked to be handcuffed as soon as he saw the Las Vegas police.

Danley, 46, was arrested Tuesday in the slaying of his 48-year-old roommate Jon Darrin Moore. Police suspect Moore was killed Jan. 13.

  • According to the arrest report, Danley told police he forced Moore to lie on his stomach and made him squeal like a pig before fatally shooting him.

Danley received pleasure from humiliating Moore, the report said.

"Danley said he has no remorse and actually found himself reliving the murder, particularly the part related to making Moore squeal like a pig," the report said. "Danley said he made Moore do that to humiliate him, and that it was not sexual as it was in the movie 'Deliverance.' "

The 1972 film referenced by Danley is about four Atlanta businessmen lost in the Georgia backcountry. In one scene, a character is raped after being made to squeal like a pig.

Danley is being held without bail at the Clark County Detention Center. He is scheduled to make his first court appearance today. He refused requests for interviews.

Police were tipped off to the slaying by a woman who reported that Danley, her tenant, said Moore was dead in a closet in her house.

When police arrived at 1713 Adra Court, near Rancho Drive and Oakey Boulevard, Danley told officers to put him in handcuffs.

"I'm the guy," he told them, according to the report.

The report said Danley also told police that he fought with Moore about "roommate things" about two weeks ago. Danley said he then got a handgun and pepper spray. He told police he sprayed Moore and then shot the unarmed man three times.

The report said Danley then took Moore's key and locked the door of his room. He told police he returned two days later and wrapped Moore's body in a blanket, put him in the bedroom closet and locked the door again.

Danley told police he had thought about killing Moore before but thought he needed to wait for the right time. He also told police that the gun he used in the slaying was stolen. Danley said he bought the gun a year ago when he was thinking about killing someone else.

A foul odor emanated from an open bedroom window near the front door of the large one-story house on Adra Court on Wednesday.

A man who answered the door didn't want to talk about the slaying.

"Now is just not the time," said the man, who appeared upset. He added that everybody in the house was devastated over what happened.

"He was a really good guy," the man said of Moore.

According to the police report, the last time Moore was seen alive by his other roommates was Jan. 13. Six people lived in the house, including Moore.

Roommates complained of a foul stench in the house, but Danley said it came from a dead mouse or something in the walls, the report said.

According to a database search, Danley was convicted of aggravated assault stemming from a 1991 incident in Maricopa County, Ariz.

"I made him squeal like a pig," Danley said of Moore to police. "I have another side to me."

JO wrote on February 01, 2009 06:57 PM: The story relating to the death of jon
moore was inappropriate when it listed in
detail the way jon died. this should have
never been published where family and
friends who loved jon could relive these
horrifying last moments of his life. the
family was not aware of these sadistic
actions that happened prior to his death
until reading them in your newspaper.
you have done a great injustice to jon's
family. they certainly deserve more of an
apology than you can ever give them. This article has been imprinted in the heart and soul of his mother and she will never forget the devastating moment when she read it.......she would have found out eventually, but a story in the newspaper was not the humane way to tell someone the details of how her son died..............i am appalled at this reporter's
lack of integrity!!!!!! God Bless Jon's family, especially his mother......she is my best friend......

I'm kind of wondering what those other "roommates" were about, believing it was a dead mouse in the walls or something. A dead human body smells a whole heck of a lot worse.

Even if I was gullible enough to believe the dead mouse story... why didn't someone call for an exterminator to find the dead mouse?

    Stupidity reeks sometimes.
