A minor earthquake has hit in southeastern Nevada, but there are no immediate reports of damage or injuries.

The magnitude-3.1 quake struck just after midnight Friday.

It was centered about 17 miles southwest of Alamo in Lincoln County.

Horsford, Carlton to discuss issues today

Senate Majority Leader Steven Horsford and Sen. Maggie Carlton, both D-Las Vegas, will host a hour-long forum to discuss issues with their constituents at 2 p.m. today.

They will host the Nevada Speaks Community Conversation at the Dr. William U. Pearson Community Center, 1625 W. Carey Ave., at Martin Luther King Boulevard, in North Las Vegas.

Man to face multiple charges in death

A man accused of using a chain saw to cut a hole in the door of his estranged wife's apartment before killing her boyfriend and fetus was bound over for trial Friday.

William Keck, 26, appeared in Las Vegas Justice Court and was ordered to face multiple charges in District Court, including murder with a deadly weapon, attempted murder with a deadly weapon and manslaughter.

Authorities have accused Keck of shooting and killing Jonathan Lestelle, 26, during an attack in November at the Villa Cordova apartment complex on Eastern Avenue near Sahara Avenue.

During the attack, Keck also shot his wife, Aingel, multiple times, authorities said. Her fetus, which was between 16 and 19 weeks old, was struck by at least one bullet during the attack, said Dr. Lary Simms, a forensic pathologist.

Keck is scheduled to be arraigned on April 28.

Teen arrested after gun found in backpack

A 9 mm handgun was found in the backpack of a 15-year-old boy Friday at Western High School, 4601 W. Bonanza Road near North Decatur Boulevard, Clark County School District police Lt. Ken Young said.

The boy was charged with possession of a firearm on school property, possession of a controlled substance and possession of a stolen firearm. He was arrested and taken to the Juvenile Detention Center.

School police confronted the boy when he was late for school and found the unloaded gun, Young said.

It marked the 29th time this year that school police have found a gun on campus. Last year, they recovered 26 guns on school property.

Outpatient cancer treatment bill advances

The Nevada Assembly has unanimously advanced a plan to require county hospitals to provide outpatient cancer treatment.

Assembly Bill 433 was brought as a response to Las Vegas-based University Medical Center ending its outpatient cancer treatment at the hospital.

In hearings on the bill, hospital officials said their own budget crisis caused them to cut services. To re-establish services the hospital will have to raise an additional $3.5 million in revenue per year.

In Assemblywoman Debbie Smith's words: "It is indeed a life-or-death decision. And in these cases, a week or two weeks can mean death for some of these patients.

"We need to bring this service back to this hospital."

Doctor gets jail after college student's death

A Colorado doctor has been sentenced to nine months in jail for illegally prescribing generic Prozac to a Stanford University student who later committed suicide.

Christian Hageseth III pleaded no contest to a felony count of practicing medicine without a license in February. San Mateo County Superior Court Judge James Ellis sentenced him Friday. Hageseth will serve the sentence in Colorado while recovering from heart surgery.

Hageseth was working under a restricted license and not allowed to write prescriptions in Colorado when he prescribed the antidepressant to 19-year-old John McKay through an online pharmacy in August 2005.

McKay committed suicide two months later.

His parents sued the doctor and the pharmacy, but the case was dismissed after experts said they couldn't prove the drug caused the suicide.
