  • Las Vegas police are investigating a shooting by a Clark County school police officer who wounded a teenage boy Tuesday in a neighborhood near Sahara Avenue and Maryland Parkway.

Two school police officers were investigating a possible gang fight about 1:30 p.m., when they found a group of five to seven boys near the intersection of Barbara Avenue and Rexford Drive.

One teen threw an unknown object at the officers and reached down as if to grab a weapon, school police Lt. Ken Young said.

One officer then fired a shot and hit the teen in the leg. It's not yet known whether the boy was armed.

The boys ran away after the shooting. The boy who was shot in the leg checked himself into a local hospital about 2 p.m.

Fremont Middle School, 1100 E. St. Louis Ave., was locked down for 30 minutes after the incident.

    SHOSHONE TRAILER PARK

Car driven into house; angry man arrested

A Shoshone, Calif., man was arrested for attempted murder on Sunday night after authorities said he intentionally drove a car into a house in the tiny desert town about 100 miles west of Las Vegas.

According to the Inyo County sheriff's officials, David Eddy, 59, was angry about being evicted from the Shoshone Trailer Park earlier in the day, so he drove a 2005 Dodge Magnum into the home of a couple he blamed for getting him kicked out.

A photograph released by the sheriff's office shows the front half of the car jutting from the side of the house.

The couple was inside at the time but they were not injured, authorities said.

Before the incident, witnesses reported seeing Eddy wandering through the trailer park holding a large knife and threatening to kill everyone.

Eddy still had the knife when deputies arrived on scene at about 6 p.m. Sunday, but he was arrested without incident.

On Tuesday afternoon, Eddy was at the Inyo County jail on $500,000 bail.

Today's the Day! wrote on May 13, 2009 10:22 AM: Jamie, K, and Heckle Jeckle:
Let's just let all criminal activity run rampant. Let the gangs tag, congregate and fight where they will, let the drunk beat the crap out of their baby mamma's, let the pimps prostitute out 14 year girls and for pete's sake, let the pcp user drive the dang bus!! Is your world so small that you can't see more than 2 inches in front of your face? You'd like to think the people, including criminals, are essentially good, you think that the H.A.'s are just a philanthropic boy's motorcycle club. Jack Nichol's said it correctly, "You can't handle the truth", because it doesn't fit into your peach-colored world. There is a badness running rampent in this world and fortunatly we have men and women who are up to the challenge of trying to keep it contained and maintaining what peace we do have. Obviously they're not robots, and subject to failure, emotion and mistakes. But please, feel free to offer your advice and judgement, void as it is of all intelligence or experience, because, obviously, you've been trained, have been in that same situation before and know exactly how to handle it.

What you want is for them to shoot someone in the hand or leg instead of center mass. That type of shooting is for television when real bullets aren't being used. The reality is they are trained to stop the threat and by shooting center mass the threat will be stopped quicker.

I'm not going to find 50 cites for you. Just browse for fleeing felon rule.

And tell me, what did you want Metro to do? A person wanted in connection with a violent felony escapes from custody while handcuffed. The options are let him escape, cut the cuffs off and commit more violent felonys. Or, stop the fleeing felon, which is justified in every State.

Go ahead and take my ten-inch butcher knife away from me without you getting nicked at the carotids. You weren't there, so you are not aware.
