NORM: Hasselhoff breaks the ice at contest

David Hasselhoff had a whopper of an opening line Wednesday in front of a theater full of "America's Got Talent" contestants.

"Anybody know where I can get a hamburger?" he cracked at the taping of the Las Vegas segment at the Planet Hollywood Theater.

The icebreaker melted what little tension was in the room, a spy says.

The audience, a colorful group of talent-show wannabes, loved the line. Hasselhoff recently left "The Producers" at Paris Las Vegas after a three-month run to return to NBC's "America's Got Talent."

The star of "Baywatch" and "Knightrider" was making light of a recent video that showed a shirtless Hasselhoff three sheets to the wind and wrestling with a giant burger as he sprawled on the floor of a Las Vegas hotel suite.

He hasn't lost his appetite for a good burger. I hear Hasselhoff, Sharon Osbourne and Piers Morgan have requested the Kobe burgers from Planet Hollywood's Planet Dailies 24-hour restaurant.

'DANCING' STARS IN 'LE REVE'

The ballroom dancing phenomenon is heading for Wynn Las Vegas and its water show, "Le Reve."

Dancer/choreographer Maksim (Max) Chmerkovskiy, one of the featured dancers on ABC's hit "Dancing With the Stars," is working with "Le Reve" to introduce ballroom dancing into the production this year.

Auditions are planned for this month. Interested candidates from the Standard, Latin, Smooth, Paso and Tango specialties should contact casting director Louanne Madorma by phone at 770-3706 or by e-mail at louanne. madorma@wynnlasvegas.com.

KTNV LANDS TELETHON

Jerry Lewis' MDA Labor Day Telethon is moving again, this time from CBS affiliate KLAS-TV, Channel 8, to ABC affiliate KTNV-TV, Channel 13.

The telethon moved from Los Angeles back to Las Vegas in September.

The telecast will return to the Las Vegas Hilton. The new co-anchors will be KTNV personalities Tricia Kean and Bryan Scofield. They will be taking over from KLAS veterans Gary Waddell and Paula Francis, who co-anchored for more than a decade.

Waddell has been with the telecast since the early 1980s and was stage manager at the Sahara in 1976 when Frank Sinatra escorted Dean Martin onto the set for the reunion with Lewis. The comedy duo hadn't appeared together for 20 years before Sinatra orchestrated the reunion.
