Kevin Doll, spokesman for the Pasco County, Fla., sheriff's office, said 37-year-old Mirohim Gayre, known as Mimi to her friends and co-workers, was shot in the chest multiple times and died at the scene.

Tracy Gayre fled in a rental car, leading police on a chase that covered more than 40 miles in three counties. He was stopped in a grassy field where he shot himself to death after a standoff with police that lasted several hours.

"I understand he called the brother of his wife and told him he shot her" before killing himself, Doll said.

Several people who knew the couple described him as quiet and her as "bubbly."

She worked at Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center and later as director of marketing at North Vista Hospital in North Las Vegas. After about two years there, she was promoted to a corporate marketing position for IASIS Healthcare, the Tennessee-based company that owns North Vista.

IASIS also owns two hospitals in Tampa and one in St. Petersburg, Fla.

During her time at North Vista Hospital, Mirohim Gayre also provided marketing services to Surgical Weight Control Center and later went there for a medical procedure that helped her lose about 75 pounds, according to a former employee at the center.

"She was really cheerful and nice," the woman said. "You couldn't help but smile when she was around."

The former employee said Tracy Gayre came in for the same stomach banding procedure as his wife earlier this year. He was "really easygoing and nice," the woman said, but he did not come back for his follow-up appointments after the surgery.

In addition to their Scottish-themed wedding, the Gayres raised Scottish terriers and took part in Scottish heritage events in Las Vegas, friends said.

According to police, Tracy Gayre followed his wife to her boyfriend's apartment in Welsey Chapel, Fla., where he made off with the Jaguar she was driving. Then he called her and told her where she could find the car. When she showed up with her boyfriend, he confronted them with a gun.

Police said the boyfriend, identified as 41-year-old Steven Duhamel, had started to run toward a nearby store to call 911 when the shots rang out.

Duhamel told the Tampa Tribune he had been seeing Mirohim Gayre for three months and that she had left her husband.

Her friends in Las Vegas tell a different story. Though her new job required her to travel a lot, she always returned home to her husband, they said.

One friend and former coworker who did not want her name used said she saw Mirohim and Tracy out together less than three weeks ago. They seemed like a normal couple, the friend said.
