NORM: Book vows to tell buried secrets

An unauthorized tell-all book by Siegfried & Roy's former bodyguards will lift the curtain on "the darker side" of the illusionists' lives, according to promotional material being circulated by the publisher.

"Buried Elephants: Siegfried and Roy's Secrets Revealed" will be on the book stands in January, about the same time as a book written by Siegfried Fischbacher and Roy Horn is due out.

The authors of "Buried Elephants" are Jim Mydlach, his son Lou Mydlach and Jim Lavery.

According to the flier, Jim Mydlach was in charge of security for the German illusionists for more than 20 years. Lou Mydlach was Horn's bodyguard and personal assistant in the year after the near-fatal tiger incident in October 2003.

  • Lavery was Lynette Chappell's boyfriend for more than 20 years. She was Siegfried & Roy's longtime stage assistant.

The book's title refers to the "secret disposal of dead animals, including an elephant buried in Las Vegas, with homes since built over the site," the flier says.

The authors also allege "drug and alcohol abuse, including fake prescriptions and rehab stints," jewelry smuggling in tiger cases and trips to South America for "sexual encounters with young boys."

The 2003 incident with Montecore the white tiger wasn't the first attack, according to the book.

Siegfried & Roy spokesman David Kirvin said, "We're aware that there is supposedly a book being shopped around by former employees seeking to profit from an affiliation they once had with Siegfried & Roy, but as there is no credibility to what they are trying to do, there's no need for us to comment."

Roeper's photo shoots were held at the Playboy Mansion in Los Angeles and the Hugh Hefner Sky Villa at the Palms.
