A Nevada beauty queen is suing a California-based tour bus company for injuries she suffered in a June crash.

The crash occurred when the driver of a USAsia Casino Tours bus attempted an illegal U-turn on Interstate 15 near Moapa. Tracy Rodgers, who was crowned Ms. Nevada 2011 and Mrs. Nevada in 2007, struck the rear of the bus with her car. She was injured and airlifted to University Medical Center.

The company's license was revoked about two weeks before the crash after it failed to provide proof of insurance, authorities said.

Records show the company, based in the San Francisco Bay Area, had an active business license in California.

Eight passengers on the tour bus were hurt but did not suffer major injuries.

According to a statement released by Rodgers' attorney, Bob Massi, "the driver of the bus informed (the) Nevada Highway Patrol that he was en route to (the) Hoover Dam but realized he was going the wrong way."

The lawsuit was filed in Clark County District Court last week.

Just because Tracy is in beauty pagents does not make her an air head, she is very smart and is known by everyone in our community. I drive I15 everyday and its very busy and saw the aftermath of this accident. The bus driver was in the fault, there are signs all over saying no U-turns and he passed plenty of places to get off the highway safely and turn around. Tracy is not being "sue happy" she has major medical bills to pay now because of the dumb act of someone who should know better along with a company that doesn't care enough to have insurance.

I could not stand this nonsense regarding Ms. Rodgers anymore. For those of you who are making assumptions regarding her accident, know that here in our community, we love her. She is one of the kindest people you will ever meet. She donates time to the schools, the community, and is a wonderful mother and nurse. She is one of those outstanding citizens and people out here love and appreciate her so much. She was not at fault for the accident. That darn bus cut from the slow lane into the fast lane right in front of her and brought it to a screeching halt without warning. If you remember all of the people on the bus were injured when the bus suddenly shifted lanes and stopped. The bus came to a full stop right in front of Ms. Rodgers without warning. It cut her right off. It nearly ran over a motorcyclist as well. By the way, she was wearing her seat belt or she probably would have been dead. How is it her fault when a bus company who should not have even been on the road, driving in the wrong direction with a bus driver who could not read English, switched lanes unexpectedly without a signal, attempting to make an ILLEGAL U-turn, and then stopped on a freeway in the fast lane without warning her fault. Seriously people, get a life. If you saw pictures of the car, you would know that God spared her. She is something very special and shame on those of you who would make it to be her fault. That bus company needs to pay big time. This company did not value it's customers or anyone else on the road for having such a terrible bus driver. The bus driver could have made a turn around less than 3 miles in the next direction, but chose to put everyone's life on the bus as well as on the freeway, at stake that day.

Do you morons really think that she purposely hit the bus? Quit hitting the pipe, people.

How about the RJ actually report the "rest of the story"... the driver could NOT read ENGLISH and that is why he was driving north on the I-15 north of Vegas "heading for the Dam"... he was virtually stopped in the fast lane trying to make an illegal U-turn. I hope there is someway of preventing these type of drivers from driving buses on American highways - call me a racist - I am - read/speak English or don't drive on our roads... next we'll be printing road signs in 8 languages... watch and see. America - love it or LEAVE!

Some commentators really need to get out of their mothers garage a little more often.

The photos were on the RJ when the accident happened...
I15, coming up on a curve, the bus back end was hanging out into the lane. How fast can you stop on your scootter?? Now imagine if you could drive a real car on a real roadway and trying to suddenly stop for something that should not have been there. You can't....

@Steve.Steckel...."I am assuming that the right lane was open..." Well you know what they say about assumptions.

Why are we assuming that she could have avoided the accident? Doesn't it depend on what the bus was doing (more detail than "an illegal U-turn), and how much time she had to react? If the bus made a sudden unannounced left turn (as the start of the U-turn) in front of her, how could she avoid it?

Let's not condemn her without some information on which to base it!!

My irresponsible act, someone else's fault. That's the way it is in America today.

  9. Steve.Steckel Feb. 23, 2012 | 9:14 a.m. Report Abuse

Certainly the bus driver should not have attempted an illegal U-turn but, why didn't Rogers see the bus and simply steer around it? I am assuming that the right lane was open, if not why couldn't she stop? If she was not wearing her seat belt, her injurys, in my opinion, should be about 75% her responsibility. "Jay.castle" may very well be right.
