Harrah's exec says odds for return of legal online poker improved

Harrah’s Entertainment’s top executive said today he believes the odds for legalized online poker improved with the results from Tuesday’s national elections.

Chairman and CEO Gary Loveman, responding to a question during a conference call reporting the company’s third quarter earnings, described the prospect for the legalizing of Internet poker as “relatively good.”

    • The prospects for legalizing other casino games and sports betting on the Internet, however, remain poor, according to Loveman.

    Loveman said he liked the outcome not because of the addition of Democrats, but because none of the leadership on the committees dealing with the issue “is violently opposed to this process.”

    Loveman admitted Harrah’s has more of a business interest in seeing Internet poker legalized ahead of other types of betting – the company owns the World Series of Poker brand.

    “This is something we’re going to be working hard at and we think the world got easier on this one,” Loveman said.

    Different Story wrote on November 07, 2008 05:26 PM: Funny, Harrah's lobby firm spread out over 12 million to stifle internet poker through the patriot act legislation because they were so far behind. In turn they allowed UK companies to grab the industry by the balls. Once Harrahs get their website up they will lobby to allow them, and only them, to open an online poker room. Big bullies. Can't blame em.

    That means Harrahs will start bribing government employees so that they give Harrahs the go ahead to start offering poker online. Add that to the money problems this horrible corporation is having and using computers to work for you and not paid employees and Yes that is exactly what Harrahs should do.

    Time to start buying off public officials huh Gary?
