Four arrested in kidnapping of North Las Vegas man

A drug-related kidnapping in North Las Vegas led authorities from multiple agencies on a hunt that ended in Henderson with the arrest of four suspects on Tuesday.

North Las Vegas police said a 34-year-old man was assaulted by two men and taken from his home Monday afternoon while sitting in a vehicle in front of the house on the 3400 block of Brazil Street, near Cheyenne Avenue and Civic Center Drive.

  • Family members told police that the two kidnappers demanded a ransom during the 3:30 p.m. incident.

Authorities later found the victim safe in a Henderson home near Wigwam Parkway and Eastern Avenue about 11 a.m. Tuesday.

As police staked out the Henderson home for a possible hostage rescue by North Las Vegas SWAT officers, four suspects inside fled on foot and were later arrested.

North Las Vegas police said a 29-year-old man who lived in the Henderson home, on the 100 block of Boysenberry Lane, also was victimized there.

The 34-year-old North Las Vegas man, whose name was not released, suffered nonlife-threatening injuries, police said. The Henderson victim's name also was not released.

Authorities believe that the kidnappings were narcotics-related.

"We're classifying it as a drug-related kidnapping," FBI spokesman Dave Staretz said.

The FBI, Henderson police and Las Vegas police assisted in the arrest, according to North Las Vegas police. Staretz said the FBI helped identify the location of the suspects.

North Las Vegas police identified the suspects arrested as 25-year-old Fernando Villalobos, 30-year-old Joel Anguiano-Barreto, 24-year-old Javier Perez, and 29-year-old Alberto Mendoza.

All of the suspects face several charges, including kidnapping, extortion and robbery for both of the victims, North Las Vegas police said.

tdsinLV wrote on January 10, 2009 04:09 PM: I still have not seen anything in the news identifying these kidnappers as Mexican Nationals or illegal immigrants from any country. There are a lot of people here, who are US citizens, born and raised, with Hispanic names, so where are you people getting that they were illegals ? There are plenty of U.S. citizens, of all races, out there committing drug-related crimes, so it doesn't make sense to me to single out the illegals. Most of the immigrants to this country are not criminals, they are just hard-working people looking for a better life for themselves and their families. And for anyone not familiar with the United States, that's what this country is supposed to be about..you know "give me your poor", etc... ever read that ?

CS wrote on January 08, 2009 04:22 PM: You know, its sad that things like this happen in ANY city with ANY race of people. Its harder to read the intolerance of people. I agree that if people are here without the legal items they are required then they need to go home, I couldn't go to France or Spain or Australia or anywhere and stay indefinately without repercussions so people in the US should follow the same guidelines. With that being said, at least these men were taken into custody and the other man is safe...his drug problem is a whole other issue.

Your bitterness will ultimately kill you. I would suggest you find the Lord my friend.

lilly wrote on January 06, 2009 11:34 PM: i guess the people commenting about the mexicans can't remember the news correctly.if you watch the news you see a white women prostituting her young daughter. i guess you forgot about the columbine incident and what happened locally recently when those white people kidnapped the little white boy over drugs.the white women who killed her daughter. without us mexican people all you white lazy scum would surely be drenched in your own mess.because you know why??white people are to lazy to do the jobs mexican people do.

I'm so sick of this garbage. Check their Social Security numbers. Whats that? 000-00-0000? SEND EM BACK. Most of the valley is turning into mexican barrio.

And to those who say these people will do the jobs that normal Americans won't do...

You're absolutely right, most Americans won't deal drugs, deal illegal arms, and kidnap people.
