Arizona sheriff accused of misconduct

KINGMAN, Ariz. — Leaders of Colorado City, where members of a polygamous religious enclave reside, are filing complaints accusing Mohave County Sheriff Tom Sheahan of misconduct.

Town Manager David Darger told Mohave County supervisors Monday that Sheahan has gone overboard in efforts to discredit and decertify members of the northern Arizona community’s marshal’s office. Colorado City is home to members of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

  • “This wholesale attack on the city police department is far outside the bounds of propriety of any elected official,” Darger said at the meeting. “The town is currently filing a complaint with the governor’s office and the attorney general’s office concerning this ongoing problem of how the county handles Colorado City issues.”

Sheahan and Mohave County Attorney Matt Smith maintain that county law enforcement presence in Colorado City is necessary. They said several town marshals have been decertified in recent years because they were less loyal to the law than they were to their religion and to FLDS prophet Warren Jeffs, who is jailed in Kingman and awaiting trial.

Jeffs is charged with sexual conduct with a minor in connection with the arrangement of spiritual unions resulting in illegal sex between two underage girls and their male adult relatives. One of those relationships resulted in the conviction of Jeffs in Utah on rape-as-an-accomplice charges.

Jeffs’ associate Willie Jessop said harassment by Sheahan and his deputies is similar to excessive and abusive law enforcement efforts employed on an FLDS ranch in Texas, where hundreds of women and children were rounded up last year. Jessop warned supervisors of repercussions if Sheahan doesn’t change his attitude.

“Ya’ll is going to be facing it. I used to not know what the term ‘ya’ll’ meant but ya’ll need to because it’s coming at ya,” Jessop said. “We have put the feds on notice and we have put the governor on notice.”

“If Mr. Jessop thinks that these threats are going to deter my action to bring honest law enforcement to that community in northern Arizona, he’s foolishly mistaken,” Sheahan said at the meeting. “My officers will be up there at any time I wish them to be there and they will go wherever I want them to go.”

Supervisors directed staff to relocate some modular buildings that the county has leased on community college property in Colorado City. The college has decided not to renew the lease that provided working space for state and local law enforcement officials.

He needs to enforce the law county wide and not overwhelm at town by charging everybody with petty detail ticket like license plate lights. thats just going to make the judge in Moccasin laugh and through it out saying its a waste of his time andtax dollars- piont is theres better bang for our buck in areas that nee LE

After you got an unsatisfactory responce from them you could have went to the State Attorney Generals office and reported it to them. I live in Phoenix but I worked up in Mohave County, on a const job that lasted about a year. There is a good old boy atmosphere in the area of Kingman, Golden Valley and surronding area. First off let me say I really liked it, the weather, the area. But they do not seem to like what they consider as outsiders. One local concrete plant would not sell us concrete at any price. There was a resturant on Andy Devine that would not serve us before 6:00 AM alltho the waitress was serving between 8 and 12 people (locals). Twice we tried gaining admittance and were refused saying they were not open. The second time she had a pot of coffee in her hand. I know of a story about a women who was attacked by a dog in her own yard. It had attacked her face, the picture I seen of the women was gruesome. With her nose basicaly being sewn on and missing part of an ear, lips had sitches, anyways this was the 6th time this dog had attacked someone, according to the Mexican fellow whose wife substained the injurys. The women who owned the dog, who was a young, pretty women had always talked the Deputies out of anything serious. The women had even been to court a few times times over the dog. Each time the dog was released back to the Woman. She was friends with the deputys. Good old boy justice.

There were three fifteen year old girls being sexually harrassed, then the perpetrators attempted to murder them by attempting to run them over with a truck in Centennial Park, I made a police report with the county, and they showed up several hours later, and said they would be back for the report "tomorrow", which they never returned to get. I gave them a picture of the truck showing the licence plate, and they knew who it was registered to. I called time and time again to get a response from the county and was eventually told that they couldnt do anything about it because the Colorado City police department wouldnt cooperate with them, and the perpetrators were from Colorado City. Now what bothers me is that the county sheriff's departments presence is stronger than ever now, so my question is, does their "vendeta" with Colorado City make them choose to want to go there now that its out of their own anger?, what the hell happened to protecting the innocent?????????????????????
One of the girls was my daughter, one my sister, and the other my neice, am I asking too much? I think not!

We slaves and serfs must obey the god given rights of our moral authorities that protect us from ourselves through victimless crime laws which provides enormous wealth to our government slave masters. I hope everyone enjoys their forced civilian slave labor inmate camps brought to you by our friends at Fema coming to a state/city near you!

Rapacious wrote on March 16, 2009 07:42 PM: Wow. Not a proponent of Waco-style tactics, but who are we kidding when people threaten law enforcement with "“Ya’ll is going to be facing it. I used to not know what the term ‘ya’ll’ meant but ya’ll need to because it’s coming at ya.” The fact that the issues are coming from "Jeffs' associate" is quite enough of a statement as to credibility.
