The man wanted in connection with the death of a 2-year-old girl turned himself in to Las Vegas police this morning.
Emanuel Dewayne Dodson, 28, surrendered in the 2000 block of Las Vegas Boulevard South, near Sahara Avenue, but police wouldn’t release details of the arrest.
He was arrested without incident on a charge of murder by child abuse in connection with the June 14 death of Jaylin Anyiah Washington, according to the Metropolitan Police Department.
A police report said Dodson was watching Jaylin, the daughter of his girlfriend, on the morning of her death. Around 8:30 a.m. June 14, the toddler complained of her stomach hurting and began stumbling around. She then passed out and was found unresponsive in a bedroom of a home in the 1700 block of East Karen Avenue, near Sahara Avenue and Maryland Parkway.
She was pronounced dead at the scene.
The toddler’s mother, Tiffany Green, was at work when another roommate called her to come home. Green called police when she found her child unresponsive. By the time police arrived the girl had died and Dodson had fled.
Dodson, of Los Angeles, was named a “person of interest” in the case earlier this week. He is alleged to have used blunt force trauma on Jaylin.
The police report did not include a motive or how Washington suffered trauma to her stomach.
When officers searched the home, they said they found two bags of crack cocaine. Green said Dodson sold drugs from the home, the police report states.
In addition to injuries to her liver, the girl had bruises on her upper lips and chest and marks on her abdomen.
Dodson was booked into the Clark County Detention Center, where he was being held without bail.
