Wildfire burning at Desert Wetlands Park

A wildfire that started early this morning continues to burn at Desert Wetlands Park near Sam Boyd Stadium in the eastern part of the Las Vegas Valley.

Clark County Fire Department spokesman Scott Allison said the fire is not contained, but no homes or businesses are threatened at this time. He said as many as five acres have burned.

  • Allison said there are no reports of injuries.

He added the Bureau of Land Management will remain on scene for the next 24 hours to monitor the blaze and wind gusts that could spread the flames.

The hot weather, winds and dry conditions are a cause for concern, he said.

"Today is a red-flag day with the high winds," Allison said.

Firefighters got the call at 3:45 a.m. The cause of the fire is unknown.

There would be cars all up and down Trop just to get a wiff. Another group of youngsters would ride their dirt bikes out the day after to see what was left. You gotta do what you gotta to not be bored.

mormons get many govt contracts without question wrote on July 07, 2009 12:18 PM: After the authorities entered the compound outside of Eldorado, Texas, Representative Kay Granger, a Fort Worth Republican, wrote to her fellow Congressional members requesting a hearing to look into a Department of Defense contract awarded to an FLDS company. A contract worth $1.2 million had been given to New Era Manufacturing, formerly based in the FLDS hometown of Hildale, Utah, before it relocated to Las Vegas. New Era supplies wheel and brake components for military aircraft. The “Fort Worth Star Telegram” has reported that New Era employed church followers at little or no pay.

“As a Member of Congress,” Granger wrote, “I am concerned that federal tax dollars may have been misused to fund this sect’s illegal activities.”

This is a recurring story. Every yesr or so the 'Wetlands' burn. It's either stray fireworks, lightning, homeless camps, unknown cause, etc.

A few years back the conspiracy was that fires were set on purpose to drive out the homeless. Before that it was set for 'training' for the Fire Dept.

I really doubt that your 'suggestion' to your boss set the wheels in motion to burn it yet again.

The last time my boss sent me out there to survey the property for the park expansion, I reported back to him that it was too dense to enter the area that they wanted to expand into.

I told him that the only way they were ever going to be able to thin out the volume of ground cover was with a book of matches. It was that thick.

Wetlands Park fire scorches six acres

    LAS VEGAS REVIEW-JOURNAL
About six acres of land burned this afternoon at the Wetland Parks, the Clark County Fire Department said.

Department spokesman Tim Szymanski said firefighters were called to the park about 12:40 p.m. He did not know the cause of the fire, but said that no one was injured and no buildings were threatened.

Always between 5 and 6 acres.

What a coincidence. Think of the savings.
