Veterans to be honored in Henderson on Saturday

Military veterans will be honored and names will be added to Henderson’s Veterans Memorial Wall on Saturday in tribute to the upcoming holiday.

A ceremony will begin at 10 a.m. at the Henderson Amphitheater downtown — 200 Water St. — adjacent to the wall that bares more than 1,500 names etched in granite of veterans and soldiers who served in this country’s military.

  • The memorial wall was dedicated to the city in November 1994. It has names of hundreds of both living and deceased Vietnam War veterans, as well as a panel dedicated to all war veterans who lived in Henderson prior to 1980.

In 2006, an additional section was added to the wall to honor Henderson residents who died in combat or as a result of terrorism and received a Purple Heart.

Saturday’s ceremony will also honor 11 military personnel who suffered permanent injuries in combat. The keynote address will be given by Henderson City Council member Debra March.
