Las Vegas police are investigating a serious accident Tuesday morning where three people, one an infant, were hit by a car.

Police spokesman Marcus Martin said the accident happened about 7:50 a.m. in the intersection of Colorado Avenue and Lamont Street, near Charleston and Nellis boulevards.

Early reports indicate a 2004 Chevrolet Beretta struck the pedestrians in the crosswalk. The infant, who was being pushed in a stroller, has a broken leg, Martin said.

All three victims were transported to University Medical Center. Their conditions were unknown.

It's unknown whether the driver of the Beretta ran a red light or will face charges in the accident.

It makes no difference whether he ran a red light or not, you just don't run down people in the cross walk. I have notice in the pass week that many motorist have been driving right through a cross walk on a green when people are still trying to cross the street in a cross walk. It does not make it right to run people down, just because you think you have the right away. People be aware of others when driving or walking, it just may save your life and definitely legal trouble.

    To tigerm:
"Time for Metro to launch another biltz on this."
Are you kidding? Metro officers are among the most flagrant violators of rolling stops and cutting off pedestrians in crosswalks.

There's no traffic light at the intersection of Colorado & Lamont but rather a couple of "yield" signs going two ways and no crosswalks. Perhaps the pedestrians mistakenly thought it was a four way stop and proceeded across without thinking. Regardless, pedestrians still have the right of way at an intersection like that but that doesn't mean the pedestrians shouldn't be vigilant in protecting themselves. You can't just wander out there; not in this town. At 7:50am there's plenty of light to see so perhaps the driver was driving distracted. If the car was driving eastbound, it's possible the morning sun may have impaired the driver's vision. Eastbound on Colorado also has the "yield" sign.

"There's no indication that the accident was a hit-and-run. "
That was mentioned in the article because it is so seldom that someone actually *stops* after they hit someone in this town...

The real crime is that women and children have to be walking around near Charleston and Nellis. Scary.

There are no signals on the streets that this accident happened. I happen to notice that people will use the side streets to get around the construction on Sahara and they go down these streets and do not stop at stop signs. I've seen this happen numerous times, along with them on the phone, texting and other things.
I feel very bad for the little baby that was hurt.

There is no red light running this accident occured on a residental side street. There are no painted crosswalks at the intersection. The article doesn't mention which direction the car was going the driver might not have seen the people if they were heading east.
