A student at Cheyenne High School was found with a loaded gun on campus Thursday afternoon, Clark County School District police said.

The identity of the student was not released.

Lt. Ken Young said that between noon and 12:30 p.m., an officer at the North Las Vegas campus found the gun while he was searching the student in an unrelated matter.

Young said he was unsure how old the student was. The gun was confiscated and the case was turned over to the Clark County district attorney's office.

The student was not arrested. Young would not elaborate why, but said the student might be arrested at a later time.

Students bringing guns to school is a very serious symptom that our school system is 'very sick' with regards to student discipline policy. They all know that little will happen to them because of the ' compassion and intent' policy the district applies to such incidents. Oh, the kid may get suspended a few days, even sent to opportunity schools 1 thru 5, but will remain in school. Superintendent Jones will probably send a team of volunteers to his/her home to 'counsel, advise, motivate and encourage the poor kid' to not do that and remain in school. Give him chance after chance to prove he or she is a good kid or until students, teachers and/or other staff members are killed. Everything will be done to insure that he/she graduates even though there is little interest in school and education to begin with. Parents of these future 'Bonnie & Clyde' criminals will come to school with their lawyers to insure that teachers are made aware of the legal rights of their kids. Superintendent Jones has spent valuable and our money to insure there is a plan to graduate all disinterested, unmotivated, disruptive, undisciplined and non productive students, but where is the plan to implement a strong, uniform discipline policy in our schools? What is being done to insure that every kid has a right to learn and teachers have a right to truly teach? Where is your plan Superintendent Jones? Where or where is it?

There are more incidents this week. Each case is different. He is not arrested. Therefore, I assume some circumstances exist with this student. Was he bullied? Was he scared of somebody in school? Glad CCSD investigates first.

You should probably get your facts straight before you talk out of your butts. I go to Cheyenne and the student was special ed. We don't know why he brought it but that's why he hasnt been arrested yet. And for your info it was a campus cop who caught him... it even says in the article.
