A driver accused of being drunk struck and killed a pedestrian Wednesday evening on Desert Inn Road near Las Vegas Boulevard.

Las Vegas police said the driver, Mahmoud Alseidamad of Las Vegas was driving a 1995 Honda Civic west on Desert Inn, east of Channel 8 Drive, when he changed lanes and lost control of the car.

The car went onto the sidewalk on the north side of the street at 5:22 p.m. and struck two men -- a 56-year-old man from Celebration, Fla., and 60-year-old Willard Hilborn of Rancho Mirage, Calif.

The Florida man, who was not identified, was pronounced dead at the scene. Hilborn was taken to University Medical Center with serious injuries.

Alseidamad, 25, was arrested and booked into the Clark County Detention Center on a charge of felony driving under the influence resulting in death.

Yes, there is a problem with the judges in Las Vegas:

Don't we deserve better than this?

Are we sure the driver isn't the president of Iran, the guy Jay Leno affectionately refers to as Imanutjob?

    Cindy,

I noticed you think the bail is low. I guess you also don't remember that Judge Karen Bennett-Haron has chosen a $3000 bail for someone that murdered another person.

Granted, this person was in a fight, ran to his car, grabbed a gun, then commenced to shooting at a crowd in front of the Palms casino. The suspect was black, which grants a major drop in bail amounts in her courtroom.

The hotel unions still show their support for her though.

If this drunk/drugged driver is very lucky he will appear before Justice of the Peace Tony Abbatangelo and bail will be set at only $25,000 as in the case of the young UNLV student's death. After all, how much could a mere pedestrian's life be worth?
