Drug seizures reported in raid of lawyer's home

LAS VEGAS REVIEW-JOURNAL
Defense attorney Brian Bloomfield could be facing more trouble with the law.
Las Vegas police seized what they thought was marijuana and drug paraphernalia from Bloomfield's home last week in a raid on local counseling service United States Justice Associates.
Bloomfield and Steven Brox, the owner of the now-closed service, are targets of a criminal investigation into allegations the company sold fraudulent certificates stating people had completed counseling programs.
According to a list of items taken from Bloomfield's home at 4027 Owlshead Mountain St. on April 27, police found a "plastic bag containing several individually bagged leafy substances believed to be marijuana." They said they found a water pipe with residue and rolling papers.
Police also took a laptop computer from Bloomfield's home, and at his law office, they seized a computer tower, 21 disks, two CDs and several case files.
District Attorney David Roger said Wednesday that he has not yet received the criminal case from police and does not know whether they will recommend additional drug possession charges against Bloomfield.
Bloomfield could not be reached for comment Wednesday. His lawyer, Bill Terry, declined comment.
Brox has denied any wrongdoing through his lawyer, Robert Draskovich, who has been critical of last week's police raid.
United States Justice Associates was one of several companies that offered programs for alcohol and drug abuse, AIDS awareness, anger management and petty larceny to those charged with misdemeanors. At sentencing, judges often order defendants to attend such programs to steer them out of the justice system.
