Faces of Hope

John Gurzinski/LAS VEGAS REVIEW-JOURNAL
Carlotta Blowe, a 20-year-old resident of HELP of Southern Nevada's Youth Center, checks out a photograph of herself Tuesday at downtown's Brett Wesley Gallery. Her photo was part of a one-day exhibit, A Lens for Hope, to raise funds for the center, which provides shelter and other services for those ages 16-21 who are homeless or in danger of becoming homeless. Local photographers volunteered to take the shots late last year. Blowe, who moved into the center in November after a fight with her live-in ex-boyfriend, is enrolled in cosmetology school and hopes to run her own salon. Organizers announced Tuesday that the center will be renamed the Help of Southern Nevada Shannon West Youth Center. West, who is the county's regional homeless services coordinator, helped establish several initiatives to help at-risk youth including the Southern Nevada Gang Task Force and the Ready for Life collaborative. » Buy this photo
