DOUG ELFMAN: Graf all dressed up, someplace to go

Steffi Graf, who rarely appears at celebrity events, once again happily chatted with friends and guests at her husband's charity event, Andre Agassi's Grand Slam for Children.

She's become dressier. On Saturday, looking very in-shape, she wore a floor-length, shoulder-bearing, silk evening dress (as a woman described it).

  • To me, the outfit looked elegantly animalistic, black-and-white. Agassi picked it out.

"It's his taste," she told me with a smile.

    What?

"I can't help myself," he said, eyeing her.

"I gravitated to it. There's something primal going on."

The surprise guest at the event was Macy Gray, who performed in the Wynn Las Vegas ballroom, as did Tim McGraw, Lionel Richie, Dane Cook, Daughtry and a few others.

The live auction battled the recession but still raked in cash for, among other things: $60,000 for soccer lessons from David Beckham, and $60,000 to go on a weeklong vacation with Agassi and Graf in Sea Island, Ga.

Deni and Jeff Jacobs of San Diego donated $50,000 to fly Deni and an in-law to a movie set where they'll hang and lunch with Matt Damon and get a walk-on part.

Deni, a former dancer, joked when she meets Damon, "I'm gonna attack him!"

Is that all right with her hubby?

"Yeah, that's OK," he told me with a chuckle. "When you've been married 15 years, you can trust your wife" -- with Matt Damon.

    THE GIFT ROOM

Stars donated their time to perform at the Agassi event. So Agassi again contracted with Lash Fary of Distinctive Assets in Los Angeles to set up a gift room, where about 25 celebrities went table to table, filling a Santa-like gift bag.

Elisabeth Rohm (she was Serena on "Law & Order"), has rosacea, so she went to the Oxygenetix "breathable" makeup table to have pros touch up her foundation (the product costs $75 per half-ounce at doctor's offices).

"Jeremy Piven wears it. He loves it," company formulator and Hollywood makeup artist Barry Knapp said.

Another freebie: a Daisy Couture eco-friendly cat and dog collar which doubles as ... a pet wallet for keys.

"Celebrities -- they love our wallets and our purses for their dogs," the woman at that booth told me.

Stars took home: a wireless Novero phone earpiece; a Jack LaLanne power juicer; silver champagne buckets with glasses; Karma tequila; WooLoot silicone rubber sports watches; Belson flatirons and hair driers that tailor themselves to a woman's hair type, including synthetic extensions; Slimware portion-conscious dinner plates that have outlines on them for your food portions; 10 tickets to "Chippendales"; dinner at B.B. King's restaurant when it opens in The Mirage soon; a VIP tour of Dirk Arthur's illusion show; Cupcakery cupcakes; Liquid Solution gelled coffee thermoses; and running T-shirts from Run Happy Tees featuring "positive" messages for women, such as a daisy-designed T-shirt reading "run like a mother."

    VEGAS STAR SIGHTINGS

Thomas Felton (nemesis Draco in the "Harry Potter" films) ate at Strip House at Planet Hollywood on Saturday. ... Retired racer Michael Andretti and his racing son Marco did up the Playboy Club and its Fireplace Lounge, then club Moon, with -- 50 guests! Hey Playboy Club, can I have a party for 50 up there? Thanks. ... After singing at Agassi's event, Brian McKnight partied at Wynn's club Blush. ... All eating at Tao Asian Bistro around the same time Saturday night: Melissa Rycroft long of "The Bachelor" and fiancé Tye Strickland, drinking something called "Love Potion #9"; Gray; and L.A. Laker Derek Fisher. Afterward, they went to a VIP table at club Tao. ... Lavo's restaurant served Rohm and friends on Saturday, plus Rex Lee ("Lloyd" on "Entourage") who then walked upstairs to club Lavo for madras drinks.

    OVERHEARD

"I dropped my cell phone in the toilet last night. ... I plucked it out, but it doesn't work. It's done." -- music director David Foster on Agassi's red carpet.

Also, you might want to think about what all the money raised benefits. Every penny goes to help children. The foundation's overhead is paid by Agassi out of his own pocket.

Diana wrote on September 28, 2009 10:05 AM: Reading about such events sure makes me glad I skip these kind of self serving gatherings where the attention starved meet to bore one another to death.

Interesting how the A list crowd avoid these events like the plague.
