A Henderson man faces a minimum sentence of 20 years in prison after pleading guilty Wednesday in the kidnapping of a 7-year-old girl.

Matthew Hayward, 29, appeared before Senior U.S. District Judge Roger Hunt and admitted he kidnapped the girl March 26. He also pleaded guilty to related carjacking and child pornography charges.

According to Hayward's plea memorandum, the parties have agreed to recommend a 30-year prison term for the defendant at his June 1 sentencing hearing.

Hayward understands "that he cannot and will not receive a sentence of less than" 20 years on the kidnapping charge, according to the document.

The plea agreement also requires Hayward to register as a sex offender.

A federal grand jury returned a superseding indictment against Hayward in April that accused him of kidnapping the Henderson girl and a Las Vegas cabdriver. It also accused him of producing child pornography Feb. 11, 2011, with an 8-year-old girl.

Hayward was arrested on unrelated charges near Flagstaff, Ariz., on March 27, a day after the 7-year-old girl was taken from the Allegro Apartments, 951 Las Palmas Entrada Ave. in Henderson.

The girl was taken to Barstow, Calif., in a hijacked taxicab before she and the cabdriver were released unharmed. Hayward held a knife to the cabdriver's side during the carjacking.

According to court records, a man called Henderson police March 26 to report his daughter missing. He suspected that Hayward, his girlfriend's cousin and roommate, had taken the child.

Authorities later discovered a pornographic picture of an 8-year-old girl on Hayward's cellphone, recovered from a backpack he had dropped in Barstow.

The case was investigated by Henderson police and the Southern Nevada Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.

    "typically a Hispanic issue"??

...really Oscar? That's the stupidest thing I've heard all day. Where do people come up with this nonsense? Being a Caucasian and having known many people who were sexually abused by friends/family members, I'm going to go ahead and say that this is a MULTI-RACIAL issue. And no way in hell are whites exempt...not even a little bit.

Teresa, you are wrong again. There is no parole in the federal system, meaning he will actually have to serve whatever sentence he receives. According to the article, he will have to serve at least 20 years in prison, and "the parties have agreed to recommend a 30-year prison term." So if the judge agrees and sentences him to 30 years in prison (with no parole), and he has to register as a sex offender when he gets released (which means he will be supervised for the rest of his life), are you actually saying that's "pretty easy" and that's not "holding him over the burning coals?"

I am sorry to hear this is a Feds case as they wont bother holding him over the burning coals. Fed time is pretty easy compared to state prisons. I really dont care about this ethnic as a sexual pervent comes in all races. Its simply the fact a snakes belly is a high rise to this dirt bag and we get to cottal him so he will return and do it again that really bothers me. AS for the D.A. I am watching to see if he lives up to his word and gets tuff on these dirt bags and bottom feeder in our area. Please have a back bone dont be a jelly fish with these criminals stand up and do us right. he can make a difference if he sets his mind to it.

Kidnapping or Molesting underage females by a Family Member or Frirnd of the Family typically is a Hispanic Issue. 8NewsNow.com has this guys photo on their site, and he sure looks Hispanic. Not surprising, since the acceptable age of Sexual Consent for a Female in Mexico City, is 12 years old. Cultural Acceptance.

Teresa, this is a federal case. That means the US Attorney's Office is prosecuting it, not the DA's Office.
