WASHINGTON -- Facing calls for his resignation following an internal report critical of his management style and his handling of the Yucca Mountain program, Nuclear Regulatory Commission Chairman Gregory Jaczko said Thursday he is not going anywhere.

"I intend to continue to do my job to ensure public health and safety, and I intend to fully serve out my term as chairman," Jaczko said. "Most of these issues with Yucca Mountain are old news for the commission."

Jaczko, whose term expires in June 2013, commented on Yucca Mountain after a hearing at which he testified to the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee on nuclear safety issues with the four other NRC commissioners.

It was Jaczko's first appearance on Capitol Hill since a report by the NRC inspector general was made public last week. The report said the chairman withheld information from fellow commissioners last October when he told the agency's staff to halt its review of an application to build a nuclear waste repository at the Yucca Mountain site, 100 miles northwest of Las Vegas.

The report also said that he exercised tight control over documents and information to be shared among fellow commission and staff members and that he oversaw the agency with a temper that made him difficult to work with.

Two Republicans, Reps. Mike Simpson of Idaho and Ed Whitfield of Kentucky, have called on Jaczko to step aside, saying his ability to lead the nuclear agency has been compromised.

Democrats have defended Jaczko, noting that the inspector's report did not accuse him of breaking any laws and that his actions fell within his authority as chairman to prioritize the work of the agency.

In an interview this week with Greenwire, an environmental news service, Jaczko said only President Barack Obama can have him removed.

"I have no intention to leave office, and the only other person who has the ability to remove me from office is the president, so if the president makes that decision, then that's what will happen," Jaczko told the news service. "But I have no intention of stepping down."

Let the scrutiny begin. This hack is now known by the public for what he is and what he has done.

There are bound to be more reviews and a lot more attention will be paid to his behavior on all issues. Good. I look forward to all we will learn.

It's always encouraging when someone you know to be dishonest starts asserting "I will not resign"...

The means the end is nearer than it was before. Lots more to learn about Mr. Jaczko. Looking forward to the revelations.

Long Time: It has been obvious that Dirty Harry has control of the puppet strings... He controls Obama, Chu, Jaczko, and, most importantly, any legislative Bill that might help on Yucca from ever making it to the floor for a vote in Congress.

Wow! Sounds like Jazkoff may be in hot radioactive water. Not much has been said about the little sock puppet Chinaman Chu? Where does the little guy stand in all this. Was there some backroom deal between the two? Reid, well, he watches from the sideline as Jazkoff gets nuked. I guess Reid gets to argue "plausible deniability" when asked if he had a hand in this.

NickDarnIt: You have a point there... I think Radical.Resident was trying to say that since he has been murdering babies he has been Contaminated by a Red Flag Zionist Cancer that is inoperative.... : )

Also, as a former NRC Licensing Project Manager, Jaczko's actions are destroying the NRC's credibility and their reputation as a non-partisan regulatory body....

Jaczko Needs To GO!!!!! What the administration is doing to the Yucca Mountain Project is completely corrupt!!!

Dirty Harry "The War is Lost" Reid planted Gregory Jaczko (his former Science Advisor and he also worked for anti-nuke Ed Markey) on the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (after holding up ~100 Bush appointees until Bush was forced to cave) and then pushed for him to be the Chairman of the NRC under Obama SPECIFICALLY so he could derail the NRC Review of the YMP License Application from the inside.

In addition, he got Steven Chu to flip-flop his position on the YMP (after signing with the other National Lab Leads that the YMR was the path to pursue) in order to gain appointment to the Secretary of Energy job (... So much for "Sound Science"...). Further, the sitting NRC Commissioners all had to agree not to challenge DOE's pulling of the License Application during their confirmation hearings in order to be confirmed.

All of these players and obstructionists are in violation of the LAW!!! Reid, Waxman, Jaczko, Chu, Berkley, Heller ALL need to be thrown out of their jobs… I’d even go further and have them arrested for violating FEDERAL LAW.

The Space, Science, and Technology subcommittee issued a 203-page report that reveals the NRC's safety determination in SER Volume 3, finding that the Yucca Mountain Project License Application meets the regulatory requirements for going forward with a Construction Permit. Let's get on with building the thing!!!!

Unfortunately there are a lot of stupid people like Radical.Resident running around. My suggestion for him would be to put away the beer and cigarettes in your single wide, turn off your tv, and go out and find a job so you don't have to leach off of public services collecting your welfare and food stamps. You might also want to try for a GED to open up more opportunities than washing dishes. Oh, I forgot.... you probably don't want to work for "Zionist Cancer profiteers. Maybe you can move to the Middle East to protect all the babies of the Palestinians, Arabs, and Muslims.
