Veteran Las Vegas attorney Christopher Raleigh, 56, and his 10-year-old son, Travis, were killed in a head-on crash near Bridgewater, Vt., on Sunday.

The both were pronounced dead at the scene, according to police.

Raleigh's wife, Anastasia, was one of five other people injured in the accident. She was listed in critical condition with severe head and internal injuries.

The Raleighs' 13-year-old son suffered minor injuries in the crash, according to Vermont State Police. He was listed in good condition.

Neither Christopher nor Anastasia Raleigh was wearing a seat belt in the two-vehicle accident, police said.

Christopher Raleigh was in Vermont for his mother's funeral, according to a source in Las Vegas.

State police said a vehicle driven by 25-year-old Joshua Ouimette of Rutland crossed the center line on U.S. Route 4 in Bridgewater about 12:30 p.m. and crashed into an oncoming sport utility vehicle.

Officials said Ouimette and his passenger, 28-year-old Stephanie Hill of Rutland, suffered severe but nonlife threatening injuries. A 6-month-old infant who was in a child safety seat was not injured.

Police said alcohol and drugs do not appear to be a factor in the accident.

Christopher Raleigh was the longtime law partner of Clark County district attorney's office candidate John Hunt.

Raleigh was born in Rutland on July 20, 1955, and graduated from the University of Vermont in 1977 and Vermont Law School in 1980. He was admitted to the Nevada Bar in 1982 and, according to legal website martindale.com, was the senior litigation partner at Raleigh and Hunt, P.C.

Among Raleigh's specialties were personal injury, insurance defense, medical malpractice and railroad defense work.

What a terrible tragedy. Chris was a warm and funny man. He was a competant and honest attorney. My prayers for his family during this horrible time.

I have known and admired Chris for over 25 years. He was a fine attorney and an even better man. A couple of weeks ago, I had the pleasure of meeting Travis who is in the same grade as my son at Las Vegas Day School. Such a polite, bright and happy young man. I had planned on calling Chris and Anastasia about my meeting Travis and that, perhaps, we could get together with our sons when they returned. Now I'm just too late. Such a horrid loss. God Bless them.
My deepest sympathies and condolences to Anastasia, all of the Raleigh family and the rest who loved Chris and Travis.

@juan s: What's the matter? losing your immigration case? Just go back, save us taxpayers some money. RIP Christopher and Travis. Hope Anastasia pulls through to raise their other son.

Obviously juan s is a Hispanic male who cannot understand that education is an important factor in American lives. Attorneys, doctors and others receive invaluable education to permit them to make a living for themselves. If juan s and his fellow countrymen realized the importance of education they may want to remain in their own countries to provide their own material support to their own kind and kindred!

Wow, 56 years old and has 13 year old son, meaning he fathered at age 43. must be a great catch!

All modern day cars have seatbelt detectors, we all hear the belt beeps if we dont buckle up. I suspect that they did have their belts on, just that the belts broke off at impact.
