A 41-year-old Las Vegas man died Saturday night after crashing his motorcycle into a light post in the east valley, Las Vegas police said Sunday.

Police said the incident occurred about 9:45 p.m. near Hollywood Boulevard and Access Road, near Charleston Boulevard.

The man was riding a 1982 Suzuki north on Hollywood at a high rate of speed and his motorcycle struck a curb south of Access, police said.

He lost control, the Suzuki slid and hit a street pole, and he was thrown from the motorcycle. He was pronounced dead at University Medical Center.

It was the 17th traffic fatality under the jurisdiction of Las Vegas police.

@concerned: Ban motorcycles??? what a joke... why not ban cars? cause there are more fatal car crashes than motorcycle fatalities.

Just limit all vehicles to 100 horsepower or less.
That should make all you dweebs who drive in the fast lane doing 15 miles under the speed limit happy.

Me thinks you took Pizza's comment a little too seriously. The wise thing to do of course, is to outlaw motorcycles. How can these vehicles be deemed safe under any circumstances?

what a stupid comment, pad the poles. how about obeying the speed limits. how about banning high performance motorcycles. no one to blame here but the rider of the cycle.

They should make a law for motor cycle riders to wear a seat belt. If he hit the pole and didn't fly.. he could possible be alive today. Also, they should make a law for every street pole to be padded... just in case.
