A Las Vegas police officer charged with picking up a prostitute has been placed on paid administrative leave.

Peter Hervoyavich, a 17-year veteran of the Metropolitan Police Department, was arrested about 1 a.m. Tuesday after officers saw him pick up a woman near Paradise Road and Twain Avenue. The officers followed Hervoyavich, who was off duty, to a parking lot where he and the woman began a sex act, police said.

Hervoyavich and the woman were arrested and booked at the county jail.

The officer is a patrol officer at the Northeast Area Command.

There's a difference between making mistakes and doing something despite knowing the consequences. There is NO excuse for peoples actions who deliberately break the law knowingly. It's only a matter of time before you get busted!!

unpaid leave or paid leave, anyone is entitled to due process. You know like until found guilty. I think we all have those rights. Geez, 75 posts over this less than a big deal. You would think this guy killed Kennedy! Come on now, enough already. Let's just put him up against a wall and let he /her with no sin cast the first stone. I'm thinking that by the description of tha alleged "sex act" all he has to tell the judge, "I did not have sex with that woman". That worked for Bill Clinton, and he kept his job.So lighten up folks this guy didn't shot anybody at Cosco.

@RealityKingpin...Interesting that your "Human beings make mistake" mantra is absent when the mistake is the result of a disease. But when the mistake is based on a lack of character and the juvenile inability to control one's urges, then we should be understanding? It's pretty clear why you can easily excuse a visit with a street 'ho, but have no tolerance for someone who uses drugs. It's because you have never used drugs. While your are right that the Lawyer, banker, nurse or Dealer caught visiting a street 'ho would not make the paper, that is simply because the Lawyer, banker, nurse or Dealer don't work for the public. But if a Mayor, Senator, teacher, District Attorney, county commissioner, school bus driver or a county parks worker was caught doing this, it would be news as well. You see, the police officer chose to make his living enforcing the law and collecting a paycheck from our tax dollars. When someone who SWEARS AN OATH to uphold the laws of the State of Nevada and turns around and breaks one of those very laws, it is newsworthy. Clearly you have incredibly low expectations of your police force. As long as you don't demand cops obey the law, then you will get cops that don't obey the law.

I wonder how many acts of prostitution go unnoticed by police. One of their own gets caught. Doesn't get any "professional courtesy". Does anyone else think someone didn't like this officer.
Off duty and a victimless "crime". Suspension of any kind is WRONG!!

I could ramble on about how stupid this guy is/was, unless your looking for crack or/and a hooker, or the cops, my advice to everyone that reads this, stay the heck away from the Paradise and Twain area, he should have known that place is a bust, especially getting a gimmick at 1:00 am, it's quite obvious and nice to know that not all the cops here are buddies.

Human beings make mistake. This was a bad mistake. However it should be NOTED , if a DR gets a ticket for solicitation his employer would never know, and if they did it wouldnt change anything.....same with a Lawyer.....same with a banker....same with a nurse....same with Dealer, same with 99% of jobs.....However if your a police offcier you will be punished harshly! and very possibly be fired. Fact is here he screwed up...was arrested...( when most are not or at most ticketed), and then will be suspended at the minimum....which could cost him up around $8,000! Or even get fired. So lets slow down onthe ovverall criticism...Metro handles these very toughly..as they should.
