A Las Vegas police officer was arrested Sunday night after police said he choked his ex-wife and fired a gunshot into the ceiling of his northwest valley home.
According to his Las Vegas arrest report, officer James Anthony Segura, 40, was in bed with his ex-wife about 9 p.m. at their home at 5605 Island Breeze Court, near Ann Road and Jones Boulevard, when he received a call from someone. His ex-wife thought it was another woman.
An argument began and soon turned physical, the report said. The ex-wife told police Segura grabbed her by the throat with both hands until she couldn't breathe and slammed her head against the wall multiple times.
The couple's adult daughter and a family friend witnessed the attack. They pulled Segura from the woman, the report said. She fled the bedroom but later returned and continued the argument.
She told police Segura called her a whore and ordered her to leave the house. He then took a handgun from the top of a television and fired a shot into the ceiling, the report said.
When officers arrived, the woman had gone outside and was trying to leave the area. She had "visible red marks on her neck" and was bleeding from her hand, the police report said.
Segura told detectives he never touched his ex-wife but admitted firing a gunshot into the ceiling.
Inside the house, police recovered two handguns. There were several holes in the bathroom walls, which the woman told police Segura had made when he punched the walls in anger. There also was a bullet hole in the ceiling.
Segura was booked at the Clark County Detention Center on Sunday on charges of domestic violence involving strangulation, as well as firing a gun into an occupied structure.
The couple had been married 20 years and were divorced in February, the report said.
Segura was hired by the Metropolitan Police Department in 2004 and is assigned as a patrol officer with Bolden Area Command. His employment status was not immediately known.

Gordon, all the men who give up the rights to the children they have brought into this world...well they must be really great men. And those men that can't take responsibility for those children must make really amazing husbands....... That crazy wife of yours went on to live in a happy loving successful marriage and let me guess oh that is right you are still SINGLE. And this is 15 years later and you can't let go! Good luck buddy.
Gordon.Martines sounds like someone who would pull a stunt like this. Can't do police work and still be a human being. Distance yourself from real life, real people, real emotions. Then when you have to hurt someone, you don't need to feel anything. Talk about real police work limited to non-sergeant and above? So in 36 years you never made rank? Couldn't cut it yourself so they aren't real cops? Sounds like sour grapes to me. I don't want cops on the force who are incapable of feeling or having well rounded relationships. Disfunctional personality types make bad enforcers of the law. You have an 'us against them' attitude and everyone else is a 'them'.
@bghs1986, GerryJickeli, Appalled. yes bghs, you are right, Gerry was doing a little sarcasm. Just had to read more closely to see it.
GerryJickeli - a lot of women deserve to be beaten. Perhaps you deserve to be beaten, maybe you even want it. Lets have your address.
@Appalled....You need to read Gerry's post a little closer. He was obviously ridiculing all those who would support Metro no matter what, by suppling an inane slogan.
remember kids, the police officer has to swear to serve and protect the citizens of las vegas... except x wives, any person perceived to be a low life by said officer, or random person who may come into contact and get on officers nerves or perform a pet peeve, or happen to just be in the wrong place at the wrong time while officer is raging or lashing out for the good of the community.
"Another proud day for Metro."
If he treated his ex-wife this way, I wonder how he treats other people he doesn't even know. He's got two feet, he could of walked out and left. He chose to stay and be all tuff and bad. NO violence period from anyone! Let alone when any sort of weapon is involved. Metro should terminate him after his paid vacation.
Gerry, really? Really?? She deserved it? Can't wait until someone one day feels the same about you, and you receive a little up-commence yourself. IA needs to look into how many times James's fellow officers have found him passed out or in an accident due to alcohol. There are too many 'inside' stories about this guy, so no shock about this arrest. Another one of James's friends had a TPO for the same problem. I hate to sound like a cop-basher but this metro force appears to think the best way to solve any situation is with their fists or a gun. What's really frightening is how these guys pass their psych tests!
They were divorced in February and still sleeping together? WTF??
Just one question; is this yet another metro bumpkin on paid administrative leave while he is incarcerated in the detention center??? Or, as Native Born said when he checked it didn't show Segura in jail, so whats his status other than he's getting paid for not being on duty, in jail or not?
