Lawyer challenges judge chosen for her DUI hearing

THE ASSOCIATED PRESS
Henderson City Attorney Elizabeth Quillin has challenged the appointment of a visiting judge from a rural township to preside over her trial on a misdemeanor drunken driving charge.
Quillin's case was turned over to Moapa Valley Township Justice of the Peace D. Lanny Waite after hometown judges disqualified themselves.
Quillin's lawyer, William Terry, filed documents this week in Clark County District Court alleging that Henderson Municipal Court judges didn't follow proper procedures in selecting Waite.
Quillin, 51, has pleaded not guilty to charges in connection with a May 23 crash. A prosecutor said her blood-alcohol content was more than three times the legal limit for Nevada drivers. Waite set a Sept. 27 trial.
Judge Susan Johnson scheduled an Aug. 11 hearing on Terry's claim that Waite wasn't drawn from an approved list.
Quillin is on paid leave from her job after a stay in an alcohol treatment program. Her base salary is $190,000 a year.
Waite has a reputation as a tough law-and-order judge from a small township about 50 miles northeast of Las Vegas.
Waite and Chief Deputy Clark County District Attorney L.J. O'Neale declined comment on the court documents filed Tuesday and Wednesday.
O'Neale was named as special prosecutor in the case because Henderson deputy city attorneys work for Quillin.

I don't quite get this concept of "paid administrative leave". The only paid leave I get is my accrued vacation time, accrued over periods of time worked. I don't think my employer would give me paid time off just because I got arrested. I get some days paid if I'm sick, actually sick, not just sick of working, but other than that, I'm expected to work my scheduled time or not be employed there. Maybe that's why we keep hearing of these situations, persons in these positions know that they will be paid regardless of their poor behavior, or criminal behavior, with no ramifications for long periods of time. I just keep shaking my head in wonder.
What a step backwards this slovenly, drunken woman has created for all the rest of the very fine, highly-educated women who are pursuing honorable careers and trying to gain respect and credibility!
How dare she drive while murderously drunk, almost killing people in her dazed, drunken stupor, and then, having the audacity to demand a different judge, plead "not guilty" and continue to siphon off her $190,000. salary while on this outrageous "paid leave!" She is a sickeningly poor example of a human being, who finally got "caught" and has no place or right, in representing all the fine, SOBER, individuals, in the City Attorney's office and Government offices! Get rid of her forever!
Did her hair look like that when she came to work? Wow, what a terrible representative of the city. She should give everyone a break and forget the law school shenanigans. The contract should have included good hygiene when on the job. Excuse me, can you tell me where the city attorney's office is? Yes, just follow the stench down the hall.
Wow! And I thought Amy Winehouse looked bad. But I like tuff broads. So my question is, "Liz ya come here often, what's your sign"?
Not guilty? I, along with several other citizens witnessed the chaos she created on that street corner! Had she been there 30 minutes earlier she'd have killed children walking home from school on that very route. Is that what it takes to prove guilt? She admitted guilt at the scene of the crime,
set a GOOD example, take her job away, and sentence her with the same jail time and fines that the rest of us taxpayers would receive!
@KnowsBetter, if we were to make an effort to end corruption (read politician), no city or entity would be in debt. We read daily about the corruption in our city but much of it is written off as a "Sin City Prerogatve". There are certain things that we have that are questionable but an outright violation of the law should be met with severe consequences.
Here we have a political appointee who’s bounced from very high-paying government job, to very high-paying government job, to yet another very high-paying government job. She is justifiably arrested by the very Police Department of the presently “appointed to” very high-paying government job, while driving a motor vehicle with more than three times the legal limit of alcohol in her system. More so, after nearly killing a couple of elderly citizens, (the people who pay her salary), while driving on the sidewalks of Henderson. Nevertheless, despite being obviously guilty, she has the audacity to somehow plead not guilty. Thereby maintaining her paid leave of $190,000 a year. Her boy friend/attorney claims Henderson judges didn't follow the “proper procedures” selecting "her" Judge. Why is it that a Judge is even needed? I actually know why, I’m just pontificating. So now, we have this undeniably guilty, likely incompetent and undeniably drunk, self-entitled political appointee, who has never been burdened with “following any proper procedures” whatsoever, particularly relative to her own “appointive-ness,” to her numerous appointments for which she has been appointed too! Presently holding the tax payers of Henderson financially hostage to the tune of $190,000 a year, plus court costs, the cost to prosecute, the cost of the Judge, etc., so on and so forth. Let’s all hope that if and when this matter is finally concluded in court, the defendant/"appointee" is required to reimburse every single penny that she is wilfully wasting, including her absurd paid leave, back to the City of Henderson. After all, they have much more important things they could be spending that money on. Like paying off the former city manager ($1,300,000) while she still maintains her “friendship” with several members of the current City Council, in Henderson, of course.
Nice PHOTO, was she ridding her BROOM while intoxicated???
paid Leave NOT GUILTY, She Must know where some Bodies are Barried!!
"Hell has no fury like a woman scorned". Even da Judge is scared of her.
The government employees never ever get tired of spending taxpayer dollars.
