An officer indicted on a felony weapons charge is no longer employed by the Metropolitan Police Department.
Thomas Mendiola was indicted last week on one count of disposal of a firearm to a prohibited person. He is accused of giving a handgun to a two-time felon. If convicted, Mendiola could face one to 10 years in prison and a maximum $10,000 fine.
Mendiola, 23, did not survive his probation period with the police department and was terminated in February.
He was one of three officers involved in a fatal shooting outside the Summerlin Costco last year. In September, a coroner's inquest found Mendiola and two other officers were justified in shooting Erik Scott outside the Costco store, but Scott's family has sued the officers and the department in federal court.

Flush, flush!
ttb; Good line "Metal of Valor" winners! That just about sums it up!
To my fellow bloggers,
Anyway you cut it, it is a sad day but a progressive one. Stay tuned, the best is yet to come and you just won't believe it when you hear it. Truth sometimes can be a very disagreeable thing, but it is still the truth and never has to be apologized for. Just an old cop reflecting,

I'm simply shocked a cop was actually fired.
The arrogance of these guys is unbelievable! These cops need their nuts stomped on a bit. Why are we giving these thugs so much athority and power? Need tighter hiring practices.
One cop-one firefighter...mmnn..well wouldn't it be great if they fired the school admin for surfing porn on the his district supplied computer..the next day? Lots of room for improvement.
our "DE-CERTIFY NOW" movement is relentless we have uncovered more than just some murderous activities and joyriding police thugs in arizona on county time and dimes ....we have gone back to ex sheriff young era and uncovered things like an agreement he had with a local escort agency to lay off their activities and pictures of metro officers male and female on our time having sex while on a stakeout dont worry folks we sent that to new york times journalist who is also now very interested in the "whole picture" .we want our great town back asap.
Not surviving your probation period isn't as big of a deal as the headline "FIRED" might suggest.
Being Bud's with a twice convicted felon and supplying your Hommie with a gun, now that's a "Big Deal" and this dude should've been terminated long before this for being a dumb a$$. Karma will eventually catch up with these trigger happy "Metal of Valor" winners.
Could this be another sign that the world is ending?
Mendiola is an easy example because he is on probation. He gave a gun to a friend. Lets see what happens to Derek Colling?? He is not on probation and is one of the good old boys. Just saying.....Lets see what happens.
