Most Clark County property owners to see drop in tax bills

The stubborn economic slump has one silver lining: Most property owners are getting smaller tax bills this year.
More than 90 percent of the 731,000 parcels in Clark County will yield lower taxes this year, a symptom of property values dropping in the past two years.
Taxes for 2010-11 will total $1.8 billion, down from $2.2 billion last fiscal year.
Property owners will begin receiving tax statements this weekend.
Taxes are due the third Monday in August but can be paid in four installments if the taxes exceed $100.
The first payment is due Aug. 16, the second on Oct. 4, the third on Jan. 3 and fourth on March 7.
If you receive a "statement of tax distribution" instead of a bill with payment coupons, it means a mortgage company has requested the property-tax bill and will make the payments.
Those who recently bought a property or changed addresses might not receive either.
Those who don't receive a tax bill or statement by Aug. 1 should call the county treasurer's office at 702-455-4323.
