A motorcyclist who died Sunday after being struck by a minivan was identified Monday.

Ryan Joseph Callahan, 23, from Nellis Air Force Base, died after being struck by a 2004 Kia minivan at the intersection of Torrey Pines Drive and Alexander Road just before noon.

Las Vegas police said Callahan lost control of the motorcycle after trying to stop for the minivan, which was driving north on Torrey Pines.

Callahan crashed into the minivan.

The driver of the minivan, 68-year-old Judith Michaels, was not injured.

This shouldn't have happened, Saint was one of our most careful riders. He was taken away from his friends and family by a woman who failed to PAY ATTENTION and stop at her stop sign. I hope whatever Judith was doing was worth it because she ended his life. She ripped my brother from so many people that needed and loved him by being careless...Rest in Peace Saint. Our family will never forget you love.

Prophoto hit the nail on the head! Vegas drivers are the worst-the woman in the didn't "not see the rider"-she didn't look, period. I rode in vegas for over 20 years many close calls & put down once. In the 3 years I've lived in Arizona, I haven't had a single incident. It's not the riders-it's the drivers.

Isn't that pretty much what Oscar just summed up for us? Did you even read what he wrote? Either way, sorry about your friend.

To Oscar Jones...he was stopping because the lady driving the van didn't see him coming pulled out into the intersection. He tried to miss her before he hit her. I know, the motorcyclist (Ryan) was my friend.

The real problem is, the majority of drivers in this County should never graduated from Kindergarden! Everyone wants to be first! If they see your signal to change lanes they speed up on you. At a 4 way stop. Someone jumps the gun! Right on Red, forget about it! They jump out in front of you! Speed Limits? Who in Vegas drives at the speed limit?? NOBODY! Count the cars that try to beat the Yellow light at every intersection! Good drivers soon become part of the problem! I've been riding Motorcycles for almost 40 years. But I hardly ride it here, for fear of my life. I've lived and worked in NYC, Miami & LA, but Vegas, by far has the worst, rudest Drivers by far! Even Metro & School Bus drivers need some lessons in courtesy!

I don't understand why the motorcycle driver on Alexander would be stopping for the driver heading north on Torrey Pines. That Intersection is only a 2-way Intersection. ONLY the traffic traveling North or South on Torrey Pines has Stop Signs at that Intersection. The Alexander Traffic does not have to stop. The driver of the car apparently pulled out in front of the cycle, who had the right-of-way. The cycle did NOT have to stop at that Intersection. A good reporter, would have caught that. A simple Google Hybrid-map check verified this.
