A 28-year-old motorcyclist who died Wednesday after crashing to avoid colliding with a sport utility vehicle in the southwest valley was identified by the Clark County coroner's office Thursday as Osvaldo Cardenas-Amador.
Cardenas-Amador was from Las Vegas, the coroner's office said.
Las Vegas police said the incident occurred about 4 p.m. on Jones Boulevard and Robindale Road.
Police said Cardenas-Amador was traveling south on Jones, approaching Robindale on a yellow traffic light. A 2001 GMC Yukon driven by 48-year-old Linda Hart, of Las Vegas, was traveling north in the left turn lane of Jones and had entered the intersection of Robindale on a yellow light. Police said the Yukon made a left-hand turn lane in order to go West on Robindale when Cardenas-Amador also entered the intersection.
Cardenas-Amador over-applied the brakes and was ejected from the motorcycle, police said.
He was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Yukon was uninjured.
The fatality marked the 14th traffic-related death in the jurisdiction of Las Vegas police in 2012.

Failure to yield, even on a yellow light, is still failure to yield. The Yukon did not yield to on-coming traffic that had the right of way.
"Police said the Yukon made a left-hand turn lane in order to go West on Robindale when Cardenas-Amador also entered the intersection." Can you clean that up a bit so as to make some sense? How does someone make a left-hand turn lane?
So True. Racing Yellow lights, or breezing through Red lights, is all too common. So are intersection fatalities, caused by these ignorant people trying to beat the light.
All because you idiots gotta speed thru a yellow, see it daily, slow the &uck down,.
