NLV discounts some warrants to clear court

LAS VEGAS REVIEW-JOURNAL
The North Las Vegas Municipal Court is offering a 50 percent discount on certain bench warrants to make money and close cases.
Court Administrator Debbie Miller said about $500,000 has been collected and 2,000 cases have been closed since March 2.
"We're doing this because we know everyone is facing tough economic times," Miller said. "It's a win-win situation for people who need to clear up cases, and it's an incentive to clear up cases. At the same time we close cases, which is our goal."
Offenders need to complete all court obligations, such as community service, to be eligible for the discount. The offer will last until April 30.
Miller said people should call first before visiting the court to make sure they are eligible for the program.
"Some people have failed to pay the fine," she said. "They've done everything else and just still owe us money. We make sure there are no other court obligations, but even if they go take care of them, we'll allow them to still pay half."
