LAS VEGAS REVIEW-JOURNAL
The officers involved in a police shooting in downtown Las Vegas on Tuesday were identified Friday.
Las Vegas officers Steven T. Williams, 34, and Keegan A. Doty, 26, were involved in the shooting of Larry Barber, 37, at the Travel Inn at 2028 E. Fremont St. about 5:30 p.m.
Two witnesses told detectives that Barber grabbed a knife from his pants and walked toward an officer, swinging the knife at him, police said.
Police said one officer fired several rounds. It was unclear Friday if Doty or Williams fired.
Barber, who had been wanted on felony charges, was taken to UMC in critical condition, where he remains.
Both Doty and Williams were hired in 2008 and assigned to the Downtown Area Command.

i understand the police have a job to do.However on the day of this this happen they did not know mr barber was wanted. He was being stopped for jay walking and was shot 5 times (in the chest, neck, back, stomach and the hand) it was not called for the deadly force. I thought the police was trained to shoot in the leg or hand why so many shot im sure you with the negative comments would think differently if it was you or one of your loved ones.
Well with the batteries melting the radios maybe it will resolve itself.
OHHHHH but wait drowsy......Metro spent 15 million on the radio system, and it's "state of the art". Of course Metro listened to the "snake oil salesman" and didn't do proper research into the company and their crappy product, or the many other departments that had work done by them and weren't satisfied by the results. But of course the person who made the final call on the purchase maybe doesn't know about Google, or YouTube. If they did, all they had to do was type in "open sky radio system", or "Harris radios", and they would have been greeted with tons of negative comments about the reliability of these pieces of junk.
Well bghs lets hope you have a plan B because your radio might or might not work and if it works, dispatch might or might not be able to understand what you are saying. They might decide to call you on your cell phone but I doubt you will be able to answer it as you will be fighting for your life.
JG...Was there something wrong with the officers' legs? "I'll get a knife and you stand still." Why don't you offer a challenge more like what happened.
I'll tell YOU what..You grab a knife and I'll grab everything at a Metro officer's disposal, except for any firearms. Now armed with every non-lethal weapon in Metro's arsenal, I think I'll use the radio to call ten of my buddies, all geared up just like me.
"The First Earth Battalion - Field Manual pdf" used on Google, provides great training for unarmed combat, for Metro. Now, we just need to write a few petitions and get the word out.
Haven't you all seen 'The Men Who Stare at Goats'? Metro should have used the "Sparkly Eyes Technique", I care. You could look the term up on Youtube, for further clarification.
I CARE: tell you what....I'll get a knife and you stand still...it won't hurt a bit..
@ I Care.... Your ignorance amazes me. Yes there are hand to hand combat techniques taught in the training academies. HOWEVER, they are also taught to always have the upper hand and put themselves into a position of advancement. All this guy needed was to get one lucky stab and someone has to explain to the officers family why a CRIMINAL killed their husband and/or father. This felon wielded a knife at officers with the intent to harm them. They followed the use of force continuum and took action based of effective training. Get a life and stay off this site with your jibber jabber metro bashing.
what happened to the unarmed combat the dept teaches them - 2 cops to one with knife unless its a samurai sword of course.but we don't know the real circumstance.
