One man was killed and another was injured Sunday night after a shooting in North Las Vegas.

Police received a call about a shooting in the 2600 block of Ward Street, near Martin Luther King Boulevard and June Avenue, about 10 p.m.

When officers arrived, no one was at the scene. About 20 minutes later, police were notified that two men had arrived at University Medical Center with gunshot wounds.

One victim, a 31-year-old Las Vegas man, died. The second victim, a 28-year-old Las Vegas man, was expected to recover. Police said the men were driven to UMC by a third person.

Police had little information about the shooting as of Monday morning.

This was the first homicide in North Las Vegas this year.

Anyone with information is urged to call the North Las Vegas Police Department at 633-9111 or, to remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers at 385-5555.

Is it my imagination, or does every shooting seem to occur within a block or two of MLK Blvd?

@ReaderinNOLA... actually, it's not your imagination. Did you know any city that has a MLK blvd\st\etc.. is infested with high crimes, drug dealings, and shootings? I don't think that's what the good Dr. was going for. It's sad... You would think that those streets honored in his name would be full of sunshine and daisys.. The same thing can be said about "washington st's" :(

Lake Mead Blvd and M.L.K. Blvd, is the black on black shooting hub of NLV. The one area of the entire valley, with more churches in one square mile, has the highest violent crime. Even after the high crime projects were emptied in that area, and the residents moved to section-8 houses all over the valley, that had forclosed and were bought by the state, the crime in the M.L.K blvd area, hasn't subsided. So what did we learn?

Maryland pkwy is going to feel slighted if people claim that MLK is #1!

Dang mark! I'm sure MLK would be very proud of the way his name is honored by those who reside near the Blvd's named for him. It is sad how things have gone so wrong since his passing.
