RENO -- Sarah Palin touted gun rights to an audience of thousands at a fundraising dinner for an international big game hunting organization and called on Americans to "keep tabs on what the White House is telling us."

Emphasizing her belief that local governments should set policy, not "bureaucrats thousand of miles away" in Washington, the former Republican vice-presidential candidate drew on her experience as mayor of the Alaska city of Wasilla before she was elected that state's governor.

Palin also talked about her family and her love of the outdoors to more than 2,000 people, who paid $100 each for the Safari Club International event Saturday where she was the keynote speaker.

Hunting and fishing, Palin said, are part of America's heritage, and she called for "responsible conservation" to protect the environment.

"Don't retreat, stand tall," Palin said.

The event was closed to reporters, but parts of the speech could be heard outside the Peppermill's Tuscany Ballroom, according to the Reno Gazette-Journal.

Woven through Palin's speech were family stories, including her daughter Bristol Palin's role on the TV competition, "Dancing with the Stars."

Carol Kjorstad, of Pinedale, Wyo., said she was impressed with Palin's focus on conservation.

"Everyone knows that hunting won't survive without animals being protected," Kjorstad said. "I wasn't pro-Sarah Palin, but I really enjoyed what she had to say. There was so much common sense to it."

Dave Tofte, of Williston, N.D., said Palin stands for ideas he likes. "She's very pro-American," he said.

So she says that policy should be made on the local level instead of by bureaucrats thousands of mile away. It was exactly that attitude that brought about all the Jim Crow laws of the South. Ever heard of them?

Sarah Palin, Sharron Angle, and Minnesota's 6th District Representative Michelle Bachmann. The three stooges.

Boy did Palin panic about those crosshairs over Tucson. So much so that her team actually blurted that they were in fact "surveyors' marks".

Palin speaks here. Palin speaks there. Here a Palin, there a Palin, everywhere a Palin, Palin.

    Newsworthy indeed.

Palin makes it appear that the Founders gave us our 2nd Amendment RIGHT strictly for hunting purposes only. Many leftists tried to use this claim to deny private gun ownership by stating that hunting wasn't necessary because supermarkets sold beef in our modern age. Powerful forces are pushing this woman onto the American populace whether we like her, or not. The media's collective, non-stop advertisements of Palin will continue unabated, so I guess we'll just have to suffer through it.

    By the way EHarris,
Do you note the difference between your complaints and this: http://digbysblog.blogspot.com/2011/01/another-isolated-incident.html

The best thing anyone can do for our democarcy is ignore this woman. Paying any attention to her just reinforces her addiction to publicity. I have enough faith in the American people to believe that eventually, SP will be seen as the ranting freak show that she is and will slip into obscurity.

    Interesting EHarris,
How many people total protested against former President Bush Jr.? versus how many had such signage? How many were looked at by the secret service and how would you know? Carrying a sign is not automatically a sign of a serious threat to the president but, given the truth of torture ordered against the law and the recently released documents showing Bush jr. responsible for the deaths of hundreds of thousands of innocent civilians in Iraq, has he been held to account under the law for such crimes?

    huh?

and by the way the speech was in reno, so it does make sence for a nv paper to cover it.

i was just pointing out another (your) example of selective outrage by a far left lib.

It is rare to fine someone on either side of the line to report just the facts.

i know not a single example in the left supporting main stream media.

And befor you call me a teabaggingbirther I am not a tea party member or a Palin supporter.

the media will tear the tea party apart the second they make a mistake yet they ignor Obamas acorn group

FYI lemmings is/was a great game.
