Las Vegas police are investigating a fatal officer-involved shooting Tuesday night inside a northeast valley bar.

Capt. Patrick Neville said the shooting happened at 8:50 p.m. when an officer entered The Bar, 1987 N. Nellis Blvd., near East Lake Mead Boulevard. He was there to perform a routine check.

A man at the bar turned, looked at the officer and pointed a gun at him. It was unclear whether the man fired, Neville said. It's not yet known how many shots the officer fired.

"I don't know why he did what he did," Neville said of the man who was killed.

Police are investigating whether the man was connected to an earlier shooting at Lake Mead and Lamb boulevards.

The officer involved will be placed on routine paid administrative leave. His name will be released 48 hours after the shooting per police department policy.

Good work Metro! The Officer was doing something "routine" and yet reacted professionally and bravely when confronted by a deadly threat. Another "shallow end of the gene pool" bites the dust.

How many police killings in 2011 is this now, 10-15? There is something radically wrong with this picture.

Guy is "suspected" of shooting someone earlier some where else. Next thing you know a cop randomly walks into a bar nearby "to do a routine check" where the guy happens to be and is shot dead by the metro mob. These stories come through the paper like a cheap fiction essay. It will fade into the background, get covered-up and the wild west will continue in this cow town. Metro is one of the most corrupt police forces in the country. I wouldn't call metro if my life depended on it.

Even the "Metro Bashers" will HAVE to agree that if a dummy points a gun at an officer, (anywhere in the world)---the officer HAS the right to the use of IMMEDIATE deadly force in response to that deadly "THREAT".....!!! For those of you that believe that the suspect has to shoot FIRST to reveal his intention(s)----you have been smoking too much crack and you have too few brain cells to function in this society !!! You suffer from "optical rectalitis"---your head is so far up your bottom orifice that you see the world from a "tunnel vision" point of view---through your belly button !!!!!
