President Barack Obama is expected to visit Las Vegas in early July to give U.S. Sen. Harry Reid yet another White House boost for his tough re-election bid, a source said Monday.

The Democratic incumbent is facing Tea Party favorite Sharron Angle, a Republican who's getting financial help from conservative groups that want to defeat Reid, the Senate majority leader.

Reid, meanwhile, has been getting a lot of election year support from Obama, who came to Las Vegas in February to praise Reid as vital to Nevada's future and the Democratic agenda in Washington.

Since then, first lady Michelle Obama has visited Reno and Las Vegas to stand by Reid. And former President Bill Clinton last week told a gathering of more than 700 Las Vegans that they need to spread the word that Nevada can't afford to lose the most powerful senator in the nation.

Obama is expected to hold a Las Vegas event for Reid the first week of July, a source said, speaking on condition of anonymity because a visit hadn't been announced. No details were available.

The White House refused comment.

Reid and the Senate should be on a break around the July 4 holiday period.

Although the Obama visit isn't official, the Republican Party criticized it.

"President Obama's trips to Nevada have only reminded Nevadans of Harry Reid's failed economic policies and motivated more than 28,000 Democrats to vote against Reid in his primary," said Jahan Wilcox, spokesman for the Republican National Committee. "The Democratic cavalry can praise Reid until they're blue in the face, but the truth is nobody has done more to contribute to Nevada's 13.7 percent unemployment rate than Harry Reid."

Reid faced little competition in the primary, picking up 75 percent of the vote last Tuesday while "none" of these candidates got about 11 percent. Several other contenders got the rest.

Both Reid and Obama are suffering from low popularity ratings these days, with more than half of Nevadans unhappy with the 70-year-old senator, according to a series of opinion polls since last year.

Reid got no bounce from Obama's last visit on Feb. 19, when the president spoke highly of him at Green Valley High School in Henderson and to business leaders at CityCenter, polling indicates.

A larger percentage of voters surveyed (17 percent) said they would be less likely to vote for Reid following the president's visit than said they would be more likely to vote for him (7 percent), according to a Mason-Dixon survey taken for the Las Vegas Review-Journal after the Obama events. Seventy-five percent said Obama's visit would have no effect on how they vote.

There will be hope for Nevadans once Harry Reid is voted out in November. As Obama said many times during his campaign... we need CHANGE..voting for Reid will be more of the same. Vote Reid OUT!!!

This story is somewhat ironic in that Wynn just announced the layoff of over 200 gaming workers.

Wonder how much of that was due to Obama's anti-Vegas rhetoric which Reid finds acceptable?

Why does Laura Myers feel the need to refile the same story two times within a 24 hour period under a "different" heading?

Did you not get enough "Pro Obama" remarks the first time?

The zoning here is by far the worst for a metro city. Reid was to build the cheap desert express train? I don't know if the majority of you know this, but most if not all of our revenue comes from California. Why do you think the downtown area lost customers and the strip sprouted in good years? I live in the centennial area of Vegas, and everyone travels by car! even with the new AceXpress park and ride, I can't even get my neighbor next door to ride it with me, he rather ride in a car and bother people for a ride then be dropped off right in front of his work from the bus! at a cheaper expense and causing less pollution for the state.

There is a million of rants, but I know for a fact Las Vegas has been the biggest hell hole ever since I was 3 years old, and I am 23.

Our hospitals are clogged by junkies and drunks, our school system funding is completely outrageous especially compared to a small town in Arkansas, this is a major city, where's the funding!? I tell you where, it's all in the cops!

This is a hell hole, not to mention county jail just cut back on jail and prison funding, welcome the crime spree right now :). THERE ARE BARELY ANY FACTORY JOBS OUT HERE. THE COMMUTE TIME IS LONG! Reid and Mayor Oscar need to leave, I am sorry but majority of the zoning here is by far one of the stupidest I have ever seen.

All they ever cared about was the growth rate, and the transforming commercial industry, they didn't care about your commute time, or your reliance on oil, all they cared about was the fact they "built" the city.

I honestly don't give a rats butt, we need loans, we need to rebuild, we need to rezone, and we most certainly need to make public transit top priority, especially on the strip, what heck monorail behind all of the fancy hotel and resorts? The only time I ever seen the damn thing was driving to the Sahara Casino.

Spew the hatred folks...that's it....get it all out. What a fine bunch of Americans reside in these comment sections!
After November you'll still be clinging to your guns and religion...and whining because life is so hard here in The U.S.A. The fact is, there is no legislator or chief executive who will ever make you happy because your dissatisfaction is with your own, miserable lives.

Hope Obama's record holds and he's the kiss of death for Reid the same way he was in VA, NJ and MA.

Reid has forgotten the people he used to represent and now pushes Obama's horrid agenda which has worsened the economy and has us drowning in debt thanks to Reid's and Obama's failed stimulus and other spending. Reid is also responsible for destroying health care. Makes me sick that I used to support Reid!!!!

    REID IS OUT IN NOVEMBER!!!

    The last, desperate acts.

Goodbye, Harry Reid. Tom Daschle has warmed up the LOSER chair for you.'

And a hearty THANK YOU to Obama for wasting MORE TAXPAYER DOLLARS on yet another visit to the city he so vocally disdains. I can only guess as to what his visit will mean in delays and increased costs.
