Prison guard at Carson City facility injured in attack

Posted: Feb. 2, 2012 | 2:05 a.m.

CARSON CITY -- A prison guard at Warm Springs Correctional Center was treated at a hospital and released after he was attacked by two inmates, according to authorities with the Nevada Department of Corrections.

Officials said Officer Sean Lagier was attacked around 4:30 p.m. Tuesday with what appeared to be a sharpened piece of wire or fencing at the Carson City prison.

Other officers quickly intervened and quelled the situation.

Lagier was taken to Renown Regional Medical Center in Reno, where he was treated and released Tuesday night. He suffered cuts, bruises and lacerations.

Department of Corrections Director Greg Cox said two inmates identified as being involved in the assault have been transferred to Ely State Prison, a maximum security penitentiary.

Warm Springs Correctional Center remained in lockdown Wednesday during an investigation by the department's inspector general's office.

a couple of days ago Sheryl Foster a director stated that there are 200 job openings and that CO start pay is about 38,000. she forgot to mention they take about 21% of from that for "state contributions" and then about 5,300 for family insurance. so, who wants to sign up?? any brave souls out there???

Can you imagine working at high desert state prison with about 3,000 inmates and only a handfull of officers? now picture an altercation and having a blod coth and dying because of it, o wait that just happened!!!

Sounds to me like MGH has done some time up north. Sean Lagier does the job as it should be done. He's a good Officer.

Even "the trash guy" at Republic Services pays a whole lot higher than those Correctional Officers. Thank you officers for doing the job nobody else wants and for keeping these animals locked in.

I'd rather empty porta-potties than be a corrections officer. You couldn't pay me enough to go to prison every day. I'm not sure why people ever accept that job, especially since it doesn't pay that well.

Prison guards do not get the respect they deserve. In a sense, they are locked up in the same cage as the worst animals in society. A prisoner with a lot of time on his hands can make a knife out of plastic bag by heating it and sharpening it. The prisoners sit for hours at a time plotting their attacks. The prison guards cannot carry guns because there is a chance that the gun could fall into a criminal hand's. We owe each prison guard and jailer a vote of thanks for taking people we do not want and keeping us safe by keeping them in.
