Rulffes offers to stay in post until 2011, take pay cut

It's an offer the Clark County School District might not be able to refuse.

Superintendent Walt Rulffes has proposed to stay in his position until Jan. 4, while taking a 20 percent pay cut. Originally, he wanted to be gone by Aug. 13. Rulffes has been the head of Clark County public schools for five years.

The school board will discuss the proposal at its Wednesday work session.

"I think we would be foolish not to accept his offer," said Terri Janison, school board president. "He couldn't have given the district a better gift. It keeps continuity through the rest of the school year."

Rulffes' proposal also includes a 30-day termination clause, which Janison said gives the board leeway within the superintendent search.

"What I like about it is if we find the superintendent we want in October, and the person decides they can start earlier than January, (Rulffes) can give us 30 days' notice," Janison said.

In June, Jim Rogers, Las Vegas businessman and chancellor emeritus of the state's higher education system, offered to do the job for free until July 2013.

Rogers wote the letter to the school board c/o the president who happens to be Janison. Ruffels for free is not worth Jim Rogers. Janison is scared of Rogers and listens too much to all those behind-the-scenes people who are also afraid of him. Ruffels is staying on in a a deal with Janison and maybe a few other Open meeting Law violators so they can hopefully find a superintendent by January, and if not, he can stay till June or he'll just leave and there will be his alter ego Kohut-Rost, the worst than Ruffels that could be foisted on this school disrtict. She is the evil mastermind behind all the academic failures. Free offer is a serious option as far as this teacher is concerned. By the way, even a 20% discount puts Ruffels at $250,000 plus plus plus a year. Way overpriced. I'll take free. P.S. Maybe Rogers just ought to fire that weatherman husband and put an end to all these ethics issues.

Also, It seems downright weird that no one has complained about the ethics of Rogers writing to Janison, his employee's WIFE, to ask for the job, a glaring issue that remains unaddressed, and calls into question the former chancellor's SOP's. Rulffles @ a 20% discount is far preferable to Rogers for free. Check the records and decide for yourselves. If the free option was in fact a Great Choice, it would have been seized on weeks and weeks ago by insiders. Keep digging, and let us know what you conclude about the free offer as a serious option.

Virgil A. Sestini wrote on July 31, 2010 08:39 PM: Why is Rulffes offering to stay on for a reduced salary until January 2011? What is it he could possibly be bargaining for: a school with his name on it? An additional buyout bonus or two? Could it be vacation time and/or sick leave time to sell back to the district? Something is beginning to stink with this idea? How in what way does Janisson expect Rulffes to service the board members with this additional service he may provide them for this additional period of time? Rogers would do it for nohting for 3 years and there are other business people in the community who could perform the job for little or nothing as well. Why pay this clown anymore taxpayers money? He will walk away very wealthy with an 80% of his current #300,000 salary plus benefits for LIFE! That is for his LIFE ladies and gentlemen; you will be paying him a very handsome salary for every day he lives from the day and hour he officially retires...enough already!!!!

If the board votes to allow him to stay after he resigned, I and many others will voice our opinions at the poll this November and years to come against this school board.

Virgil A. Sestini wrote on July 31, 2010 09:12 AM: Now the school board is considering whether to allow Rulffes to extend his contract until a new Superintendent is found, but at a reduced salary rate. I say no, no way should that be allowed; hasn't he done enough to put this district in the financial hole? What does he want? more time and money for his PERS retirement account to build up even more? Jim Rogers said he would do it for free untl 2013...Which is the better deal? A man with integrity, honesty, superior insight into how to run a large corporation, superior knowldege and orgaizational skills or what we already have in Walt Rulffes? Does Janison expect something special or different from Rulffes is he continues on as Superintendent of the CCSD?With Rulffes it is more likely to be more of the same nothingness as in the past. A loser is a loser is a loser. Let him go ASAP!!!!
