A security guard, who was working at a party where a 17-year-old was shot to death last month, was arrested in connection with the homicide on Thursday.
Yauder Martinez-Rodriguez, 24, told Las Vegas police he fired his handgun once into the air, above a group of males where several shots had been fired on Sept. 17, according to the arrest report.
Martin Jefferson Jr. was found dead with a gunshot wound to the head at the scene, a parking lot outside the Oasis Banquet Hall near East Sunset and Sandhill roads.
An autopsy and forensic investigation later matched the bullet to Martinez-Rodriguez's gun, and he was booked on a count of murder with a deadly weapon, the arrest report said.
Witnesses statements said security guards had escorted several females out of the banquet hall for fighting, and handcuffed the women in the parking lot just before 2 a.m. As people started leaving the event, a group of males appearing to be angry at the security guards, gathered in the lot and one of the men fired a handgun in the air several times, according to witness statements in the arrest report.
Martinez-Rodriguez, about 50 feet from the group, drew his handgun and fired once into the air, the arrest report said.

It actually sounds like he did the right thing but the thugsters refused to comply. Yes, someone is dead but the lesson learned should be some form of respect for authority. Respect for elders has already gone out the window so at what point do we stop the ignorant behavior of these miscreants?
What says the family plays the lottery against the security guard company?
Was this a Hispanics-Only party?
It is 2 am, it is dark. A group has been fighting inside. and you apprehend them and take them to a parking lot to keep the peace. A group of angry armed men come at you with guns blazing? Your thankless job is on the line but you need it. Do you leave the apprehended at the mercy of the armed mob. Do you shoot back or get run out of Dodge City?
The guy is just trying to do his job. He clearly lacks any training to deal with situations such as this. He's just a rent a cop with a gun. Rent a cops, ya get what you pay for.
You're kidding me. Do they even have the rights to own a firearm during patrol? Have you ever heard of crowd control?
Is this security guard a walkaway from the CCSD PD ? Did his mom not tell him that "warning shots" went by the wayside about the time that William Bonney was about 15 years old ! Now that poor meat-head will be doing some cool-your-heels- time in the joint....poor kid !
What are the charges against the beasts who started the trouble which led to the death? Will they face the same charges as the security guard? Teenagers or not, if they were participants they need to be charged as well.
Yauder Martinez-Rodriguez is he even here legally?
he meant he fired into the hair h..air..
Go to jail, go directly to jail, do not pass go, do not collect 200 dollars... Geeeze...
