Updated: Apr. 10, 2012 | 10:19 a.m.
The Clark County Shooting Park will open its doors Saturday, with weekend hours only through Jan. 3.
The park is at 11357 N. Decatur Blvd., about five miles north of the Las Vegas Beltway.
County Commissioner Tom Collins will fire the first shot at 8 a.m. at the shotgun firing range.
The park is expected to open full time by mid-January, when a large event is scheduled. It will be open 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday for the next three weekends.
The 2,900-acre park's $61 million first phase will include a trap-and-skeet field, an archery range, a rifle and pistol center, and a shotgun center with 80 recreational vehicle spaces.
Rifle rentals and ammunition are not yet available. It is recommended that park users bring their own firearms and ammunition as well as ear and eye protection.

It's about time this range opened. Now I've got somewhere to shoot where I don't have to worry about some idiot across the canyon shooting me. Desert shooting is fun but I've had too many close calls to continue going out there. I plan to frequent the Clark County Shooting Range a lot. And maybe, one of those pissing and whining home owners in the area is ready to sell their house. I can give them a good deal on it...based on current home values not what they bought it for.
