SALT LAKE CITY -- Federal authorities joined a manhunt Monday for two fugitives described as "very dangerous" who are suspected of killing an older couple in their Utah home and shooting a woman in the head outside a Nevada casino.

"We have an extremely dangerous situation going on," Supervisory Deputy U.S. Marshal Jim Phelps said.

Few details were released by a federal fugitive task force working with authorities in the two states.

The crime spree began Saturday in the parking lot of a West Wendover casino, when a man and woman tried to carjack another woman. The victim fought back but was shot in the head while escaping. She was hospitalized and expected to survive.

"Had she not resisted in the manner that she did, she probably would have been a third victim," Phelps said.

The suspects later stole a car as it idled outside a hotel in Wells, about 50 miles west of the casino. A 50-mile chase by authorities along Interstate 80 reached speeds of nearly 100 mph before the suspects turned onto a dirt road and disappeared about 35 miles from the Utah border, Nevada Highway Patrol trooper Jim Stewart said.

"We haven't seen them since," he said.

Police in West Wendover found items in a car abandoned by the suspects that led them to the home of Leroy Fullwood, 70, and Dorotha Fullwood, 69, in Mount Pleasant, Utah, about 100 miles south of Salt Lake City. The couple had been shot to death.

"Because of the nature of the double homicide, plus the shooting out in West Wendover, we obviously know that there are two very dangerous individuals on the streets," Phelps said.

The suspects were last seen driving a stolen gray Volkswagen Jetta with Colorado license plate 725WHX.

MSchaffer, you don't have a clue do you? Lets say for argument sake that guns weren't involved. Do you really think these two thugs would have stayed home that day and watched Home and Garden TV instead of carjacking and murdering innocent victims? You think maybe they would have stabbed or beat the victims if they didn't have access to guns? Should we outlaw knives and sticks and rocks too, because people kill with them also? You people make me sick! Like others have posted, it wasn't guns that did this. It was sick minded thugs, that would have gone to whatever measure necessary to commit the crimes they wished to commit! Plain and simple!

MSchaffer--police are looking for the guns now--and expect to arrest them shortly.

Imagine if that poor woman in her car had a gun and was trained in its use. Then there would have been no chase and no fugitive. Oh that poor little old couple. Maybe if they had been redily armed at home they could have put an end to this. But hey let's take away all the guns from the good people so that the criminals know for a fact that they are safe to rob and kill us and watch the numbers sky rocket of innocent deaths. I guess just because you have a brain doesn't mean you use it huh?

Sounds like these 'perps' should come to LV where Metro might give them their just rewards.
This would elevate them from murders to martyrs in the eyes of the Metro bashers!

It's not the guns, MSchaffer - it's the idiots wielding them. A gun is nothing more than a tool; it can be used to harm, or to protect.

It's been said before, and still holds true: "A well armed society is a POLITE society".

That's correct, more guns are the answer. Remember the Super Pawn attempted robbery? One out of roughly 2.5 million times per year a gun is used for self defense.

    Yeah! More guns...that's the answer!
